Speeding biker caught by video
A MOTORCYCLIST who filmed himself speeding through the Midi-Pyrénées at up to 175kph has been caught by police – after he accidentally dropped the camera on the roadside by a police station.
Officers found the abandoned camera a few hundred metres from their base in Lauzerte in the Tarn-et-Garonne and watched the 25-year-old biker clock up 65 breaches of the highway code in just 38km.
He had set off from Montauban with the camera mounted on the bike and during his route to Lauzerte broke the speed limit 23 times - reaching a peak speed at one point of 177kph.
On his way back home, the camera fell off without the driver noticing. He retraced his route the following morning and police recognised him and arrested him.
According to La Dépêche, the bike has been confiscated and the biker is due to appear in court next month.

In Australia, the police would have been investigated by IA for posession of the camera and the tape would have been inadmissable because they didn't have a warrant to view the recording.....

No, not really. As far as I'm concerned, that would have all been completely legitimate. Fortuitous finding of evidence is not the same as searching for evidence without a warrant.ducati_paul wrote:Really?triway wrote:In Australia, the police would have been investigated by IA for posession of the camera and the tape would have been inadmissable because they didn't have a warrant to view the recording.....even if they were viewing it to try to establish who owned the lost property?

Interesting to know how they knew who the rider was if the video showed speedo reedings. Unless he has filmed himself, the reg plate of the bike and then the ride, the ride alone would be circumstansial (sp). He may have filmed him self and his bike, then lost the camera. Someone else may have filmed the high speed stuff and dumped the camera. How can either be proved?

Without seeing the video one can only speculate about why this person was so stupid and how they were able to be caught.
