from what i can see and gather the wr450f would be the most bullet proof and sensible enduro, there's shitloads of em about so spares are plentiful...and they still go alright

Yours is a bit older but a good'n ;)
Just realized he asked about 450's  ....
Was asking about 450's for the same reason as Pinchy, just because there is an option of racing it. If they would let you race a 525, I would be looking at a KTM like Russ and Wattie's as I think my fat arse could do with the extra power to lug it around. Maybe I could get an exemption for racing based on the extra weight the bike has to carry since I will weigh about 40-50kg more than the average rider. I might have to contact TON and ask.

you'd be surprised at the power of the 450's Nelso.

I rode one at Louee the other weekend and it deadset flew. Sure it was the SX model but the torque alone was almost identical to mine. Felt lighter only marginal but it felt lighter all the same.

Part of the reason of me looking at selling mine is to get a KTM450 so I can potentially race Pinchy next year as well ;)

All the same I think a 450 will impress you ;) , they are nothing like my old KLX400

As far as the Japanese makes go, I wouldn't go near a second hand anything other than the Yamaha's. We've just gone through the process with Chris's new dirt toy. Have a chat to Glenn at Allfixed ;) but also have a look at the second hand prices for Honda's, Suzuki's and Kawasaki's, the market will give you a pretty good indication of whats good and what's not.

He is talking sense. We are only trying to save you cash by buying the right bike straight up instead of buying the wrong one and selling it 6 months down the track. ;)

Another thing you could do if it hasn't been suggested yet is come down to EC when they have the next motard race practice night, (every six weeks, so the next one should be soon) Have a look at what the fast guys are running and have a talk to a few of them.

Who said anything about cheap, that thing's cost me a small fortune, still I don't think I'll ever spend as much as you have in repair bills, even with a complete engine rebuild! ;)
