How about an XS400 bobber ???.......

Post by Gosling1 »

yeh as the title says - been busy on bikes other than Kawasaki's at the moment ! (well, apart from finishing the Shadowfax.)

First cab off the rank has been an XS400 bobber. I am sorting out the electrics on this bike - essentially using a stock harness and shortening it to suit the new frame. Marinko (from RHOK helmets) bought this bike a few months ago - an unfinished project  these always come with some issues....... ;) - and I offered to do the wiring as I am kinda OK with electrics.....

The actual build of this bike is something else again, and I will add some photos here shortly. It uses a stock XS250 frame (same frame as XS400) - which has been modified to a hard-tail design. Special Talon hubs have been spoked up to some really wide rims, which barely fit between the frame-rails at the rear and the forks at the front.....but they do fit. They also look particularly shit-hot :kuda:

A springer seat has been added as well as an Ossa tank. There are a few other minor mods - pictures tell a thousand words though....

The electrical mods have been required as the bike now has no sidecovers at all, and a seat that hides nothing. A custom battery-box has been added below the seat - and I have hidden pretty much all the major electrics in another box which hangs below the battery and in front of the rear wheel. Things like the reg/rectifier, flasher relay, auto-cancelling relay (blinkers) and a few other minor bits - are all housed in this box. A blade-fuse sealed holder has been added to the front of this box for all the fuses. The only electrical component which sits out in the breeze - is the starter solenoid. I have added a bracket for this so it sits on a tube directly under the seat - looks pretty cool as it is basically self-contained anyway.

Most of the mods have been completed to the harness, I am doing the finishing touches this arvo. Looking for a test-start in the morning :kuda:

This bike has already been entered in a Shannons bike show where it won Best Bobber. It has a very unique style to the 'finish' which will become clear once I get some photos added here.......keep your eyes peeled. This bike - even though it only uses an old XS400 motor - does actually look really cool in the flesh.

OK I have an update for this build, it is just loading up to Youtube at the moment :kuda: :kuda:

bike is now a runner, all electrics work as per factory - and it starts instantly. Very happy with that......

that rustic look is something the owner is very proud of ;) but the rims need a polish  I am looking forward to a spin on this little jigger once the rear mudguard is sorted out.

I saw the test ride vid on cr. You make it look like a pitbike when youre sitting on it.
