Bored? Pick my next bike
have you tried a z1000 ?
seriously have a go on one, you may find it suits you to a tee.
i know whay you are looking at the 02, great sitting position - but you already knew that - bigger engine = more torque. all in all a great and very underestimated bike. then again dave's new 9 in niiiiiiiice.
just out of interest, has he let you have a go yet ?

If you don't particularly like the 05/06 6 Cath I reckon you should seriously consider a 9.
It'll have more power than what you've got, still a very nice seating position, will eat the miles on the way to the GP, and if you need parts you can pilfer them from Dave's when he's not looking
New bike shopping....Mmmmmmmm

Hey Cath,
What's the point of getting the 02? Just out of curiosity, aren't they identical except for about 40 extra cc's? Drop a tooth on the front sprocket
Either way you look at it your going to lose money, prob more buying another 02 considering you'll lose money on the 01, then when you sell the 02 you will lose more again.
I prefer the J1/J2 personally compared to the 05/06 based on seating position for comfort, and with a double bubble they are brilliant even in the wet because they shield you so well...
At the end of the day, more power would be nice, but unless you are using it well what difference will it make?
Personal choice, and def. a tough one.....
If I had abit of money to spare I would get an exhaust system and get mine tuned and jetted... But only because I've had the bike a couple of years now and love it.. The flip side is... The longer you've had it, the closer you are to something going wrong with it...
Tough call either way.... And certainly not a decision someone else can make... unless they give me the funds they can make the decisions for me

yeah i wouldnt bother upgrading from 01 to 02, really only gaining a few cc's there...
if you like the ergo's of the 01 6R, then you will love a 9R
anything 98 to 03 is good
they go ok stock, but with a full system, advancer, jetkit and the mesh out of the stock air filter.... its an animal!!!!!

i agree with the lads, going from an 01 to an 02 is fruitless...no real gain.... u could make up the power diff with sum performance mods (or drop a few kg off the bike with lighter parts etc)....
if u love the 01..keep it!!
dont buy the 05/06 cos these guys tell u to, if u dont like it, DONT buy it..u the one who gotta love it...
test ride the z's..or a zrx?? or a zx9r.... or sumthin u normally wouldnt (trumpy's new 675 looks nice)...even ride a cbr and a r6 for comparison (after 5 min on the r6 ull kno why i hate em..pieces of crap they are)..
doesnt mean u gotta buy one..i test rode an R1 just so i could slag it off knowing what i didnt like abt it..

Thanks to all the bored people out there!
The responses have made me re-examine what I want in a bike and why I have been wanting to upgrade.

The '00 and '01 (600cc) are very similar to each other. The '02 is a similar style, but is a 636 instead of the 600. The '03-'04 are very similar to each other (636, infamous rear suspension). The '05-'06 636's are practically identical.
-> There you go - way more than you ever needed to know about the mighty sixes!
Good point about the sort of riding I do, MadKaw - I'm currently commuting 180 kms a day, the usual Sunday run and am already looking forward to the GP trip. Maybe I'm getting old and should consider comfort a bit more highly
Duane - I haven't seen a sexier ride so far - how many k's on the clock?
We will probably do a bike swap this weekend and I'll try out his new 9, while he experiences the dance of a thousand gears on my 6 (I hope he can keep up!)
Thanks again for the comments, everyone. Lots of food for thought. I'm off to bed to dream about a new bike...
I hadn't been (because of the height/weight issue), but after reading this thread I'm considering it...Hoffy wrote:Would you go bigger? 900?
No, not really - and now I'm not really sure why not!Plasma Blue 636 wrote:I'm guessing the 03/04 doesn't enter the equation?

Never thought about the '03-'04 before, but I'm starting to think about it.Wattie wrote:but what about like on 04 or something? are they the same as 02 but newer?

Nope, I have the '01, with the 600 engine. the '02 is similar, but has the 636 engine (and to be a big skirt about it - it also has a sexy sticker kit!)red_dave wrote:The 02 is what Cath already has but with the 636 engine...
Shit mate, that's a huge offer. If it's serious - I may just take it around the block if you don't mind. If it's not serious, just keep stallingYou're also welcome to take mine for a fang for rreasearch purposes...

Heh - very tempting. [little kid whinge] But I wanna new biiiiiiike![/little kid whinge]Colette wrote:Or option 4, wait for 5 months and get the '07 model

It's the bike I originally fell in love with and wanted. And I think I like it more than the '06 (for my style of riding). OTOH, a brand new '06 is appealing and they are sexy as hell!Dan wrote:What's the point of getting the 02?
Nah I know. But it has been interesting to hear the different opinions!Tough call either way.... And certainly not a decision someone else can make...
I think that's exactly what I need to do - widen the search and test ride stuff I hadn't thought of - until I fall in love with one. Thanks NekaNeka79 wrote:test ride the z's..or a zrx?? or a zx9r.... or sumthin u normally wouldnt (trumpy's new 675 looks nice)...even ride a cbr and a r6 for comparison
And that pretty much sums it up for me - thanks Tanya. Sounds like you're either a mind reader or just like me. When I jumped up from the 250, I wanted a CBR600, but nothing felt right until I threw a leg over the ZX6R and it just 'fit'. I should've thought about it earlier - it's the same situation all over again!tanyathecheeky wrote:My suggestion Cath is to test ride more bikes
I wanted an 06, until I sat on it, I just didn't fit, so I looked at other bikes to see what grabbed me

its sort of like when big guy, oops, wadda went to have a look for a new bike, he was going to buy the 10 and just happened to go for a ride on the 12 AFTER he'd decided to buy the 10.
fell in love with it and away he went. after having a ride the other night i can see why.
i seriously suggest you have more than a go round the block
on wattie's z1, i think you may be surprised

i rode the 01...
what i didnt like-
too small, front end flighty, wheelies too easily (like when ur trying to get the power down mid corner) seating position sucked, ..just felt like a pig...
what i did like-power..lots of it.. but then again my cbr has similar power, handles a shit load better, front end sticks to the road nicer, and u gotta make it wheelie...
