Duane wrote:I believe on a efi bike running 98 would make a difference as the EFI would notice the different rating of the fuel. however, someone will correct me there. but there should not really be any major performance differences between it.
Only EFI's fitted with knock sensors I think Duane. Mind, even with knock sensors, diesel get's a littel smokey!!!!!

only BP and Caltex's finest enter the Z fuel tank. 98octane.
i ran that craptimax 100 shit in it once and it didnt do wheelies as good...
mobil synergy 8000 is the same stuff as BP ultimate. it was produced under a joint venture.
only time mine gets less than 98, is the servo at Broke, it only has normal premium.

my mate had a good point which interests me, readign through te ZX2R manual says at 1500rpm the timing sits at 15c adv. and at 16,000 rpm sits at 50c advanced...with that in mind, how would the bike run on Methanol or even 130ron av gas ?

only EFI with knock sensors and O2 sensors will get the maximum power & efficiency out of higher octane fuel.
basically no EFI sports bikes have knock sensors or O2 sensors
does a efi 636 require minimum 95 octane fuel? if not, and as long as it hasnt been tuned to suit 95-98 octane fuel, then there is no problem with running 91 in it. if anything its better
i run 95 in my 1998 9R (carbed not efi) cause i have a +4 timing advancer. runs like sheet on 91. ran best on 91 before the advancer tho.

Someone a lot smarter than me made a similiar comment regarding carbed bikes and 91 Ron fuel. So i think there may be some merit to what you are saying. I do KNOW as a fact, that the Optimax blocked the injectors on the 636 and that it ran better more often than not and got better fuel consumption on 95, but I havn't done any testing with the 9. I may empty the tank and put some cheap crappy 91 in and see what the bum dyno tells me.

ive heard of optimax blocking the injectors on a CBR954RR
strika your bike has slightly higher compression than mine (~12.2:1 vs ~11.8:1) so it technically needs 95 as standard... tho ive heard the E & F models can run ok on 91 as long as you dont labour them at low revs. not sure if the E & F models would respond as well to a +4 advancer with the extra compression

What about the E10 ethanol/ulp mix?
Kawasaki says"NO" don't use it.

why risk it for the negligable saving!
bp ultimate all the way

thats also because my bike was mapped with ultimate in it.

I use Ultimate only in my '99 zzr250, and have done for nearly 3 1/2 yrs.
I had no probs with it until the fuel filters came out of the tank.

What's that about the filters?

why would optimax in particular block the injectors over any other 98ron fuel?? or does any 98 ron fuel block the injectors? i assume and 06 636 would be equipted with 02 sensor and knock sensor ?

optimax have cleaners in the fuel/waxy stuff
it was designed for cars moreso than bikes
