I find that people are more kind to bikes (even in Sydney) then cars but having said that I've had one very, very close call..... about to turn right in middle lane with 4x4 in the right most lane so when the light turned green I thought I'll go wide and give him some room. Next thing I know an idiot in a RAV4 runs a red, rushes past my left at 80kmh+ and missed me by an inch! I gunned the 250 and caught up, bashed on the drivers window at 60kmh yelling abuse . The young driver (on P's) was still on his phone unaware of what just happened. As I was yelling the 4x4 pulled up on the other side & did the same. At the next lights I stopped and when I noticed the passenger pointing at me and laughing I squezed through the cars, pulled up to his window and shouted at him to lower it . When he refused I was threatning to punch his mirror but regret that my age & intelligence got the better of me. Now I ignore, wave or beep drivers in the wrong but smart arses or idiots who do it deliberately &/or show no remourse get a taste of my steel-caps.

I've only been riding since April and nothing too terrible has happened yet apart from a few cars trying to merge into me. It's easy to get out of that at high speed on a bike on the highway, not so easy in town traffic though.

The most interesting thing for me to notice was Mattyv's different approaches to bad behaviour by other road users when on the bike and in the car. I think it goes like this:

When on the bike: get out of the way, then let them know they're a f#%king idiot using whatever means necessary to make your point.
When in the car: Do NOT get out of the way under any circumstances. You were there first, if they want to merge into you/cut you off/pull out in front of you etc. etc. stay as close as physically possible until they're scared witless you're going to hit them, then move a little closer..... I think the theory is that if you're in the right place and they're not, well they've gotta pay for the damage! Seeing as I drive with Matt all the time, I get to see a lot of 'entertaining' incidents and classic looks on the faces of idiot drivers. Life is never dull!

I shake my head, do the "whatinhellareyoudoing!!" hand signals and get outta the way!!
but i always try and figure whos going to try and run over me first so im not stuck doing it!!
female at 5'3 you dont look very scary to most people no matter what u do, my bikes not powerful enough to get away if they get pissed and i cant afford a new one that can
dont lane split etc. in spring/early summer cause i find women in cages get agressive when they see im female and try and run me ovr(competitive thing?)

i always wave at kids n talk to them about bikes/let them sit on mine - perhaps if their kids get bikes they will be more careful bout us, but at least they will think of us as people.
its when they stop thinking bout us as people and start thinking about us being objects on the road or dickheads that things get dangerous
