You're right of course Hoffy, it is important to have a well sorted bike as well. I suppose I figured it goes without saying that the bike needs to be in good order, with decent tyres, effective suspension, etc, and assumed (I know, the mother of all fuckups) that the OP had a decent bike in decent nick.
