i know he's already fried one set of rear rotors from the pads being clamped on the rear disc...IsleofNinja wrote:If you do get all the air out and don't leave a bit (a few mm is enough) of free play the rear caliper will 'pump up' and fry your rotor / pads.
i am reading this thread with interest so i can learn how to do this in the future

Re: Rear brake 08 zx10r Please explain
Sounds like a bitch of of bleed job . Try taking the caliper off and having it held /tied up higher than the master cylinder with the brake line straight . Have something between the brake pads and press down on the lever a bit . hold the lever open with a weight securing it open and leave it overnight so any air can travel up the line . Next morning open the nipple with a tube attached while still applying pressure to the lever .
Alternatively use a syringe full of fluid to try and push from the caliper back to the mastercylinder . Carefull of the mess .
Tapping the brake lines can help the tiny air bubbles release and float up .
WTF are you using the rear brake so hard

Re: Rear brake 08 zx10r Please explain
what did you do to it to cause it to get stuck on??
but do what bill the kid says, leave it a day or 2 and give it a few taps as you walk past or whatever. air will go to the top.

Remember what I said bout the free play.
Fill resevoir with DOT 4 (check spec to be certain) --- Many people don't realise but some seals are designed for DOT 4 and turn to mush with DOT 3 and vice versa ..
Crack nipple and put your finger over the end (works like a 1 way valve)
GENTLY work rear brake pedal making sure you don't run resevoir out of fluid.(you will feel the air bubbles coming out)--- you don't need to lock of nipple on every down stroke.
When your satisfied you got all the air out , GENTLY push the pedal/lever all the way down and lock off the nipple.
Hose down your bike to get rid of all the fluid you just spilt all over the swingarm and rim LOL!
You should be good to go......
NOTE.. If you cooked the rear rotor you may well find you've distorted it causing the pads/caliper pistons to be knocked back giving shit feel and a long pedal.
Chuck up on the trusty Kaneg and turn the rear wheel slowly by hand.. look at the rotor/pads as your turning the wheel to check rotor run out.(in bad cases the whole caliper moves as you turn the wheel!!)
Hope it helps mate..
