ya know what happened??
Yeah, it went a little something like this .....
Riding down the on-ramp from the Pacific Hwy onto the Gore Hill, traffic was constant but fairly light.
As we get towards the end of the merging lane I am doing a head check over my right shouder when the car two in front of me decides to stop rather than merge ... this is at about 80 km/h though !
The car in front of me brakes heavily to avoid the car in front of him, and I look back to see a bumper-bar about 12 inches from my front wheel and closing fast.
I brake hard and fast, lift the rear wheel a little but remain in a straight line until I hit the car (which is still moving about 20 km/h I guess) while I'm doing 60-70.
After hitting the car I lost control and seem (things get pretty hazy here) to have gone over the bars and landed on my right wrist - the impact fractured a bone in my elbow. My brain-bucket also had a bit of a slide along the tar - dunno how or when, as did the right shoulder of my jacket. I actually don't know how I missed landing on the car, but I guess I must have kept it together just long enough.
When it all finished the bike was facing back almost in the direction I was coming from
I've got to say that I'm damn glad I was wearing good safety gear 'cause as sore as my elbow is, I don't have a single scratch on me and it could have easily been much worse.
Oh well, new bike here I come

It's interesting that Team Crashed '05 is now abbreviated to T/C '05 in the thread title, and everyone knows straight away what it means.......

Sorry to hear the bad news Dave.
Sadlly I think it happens to all of us eventually.
How awsome is the safety gear nowadays?
Take your time findind a new bike and decide what YOU want.
Hope the aches stop soon.

.
Oh and insurance wise do you know what the outcome is looking like? I hope you've got insurance, or if not, the guy you smacked into (or the guy in front of him) does (this is where i'd bitch and complain if they attributed blame wholely or partly towards you).
Good luck matey.

Accident is entirely my fault ... it's up to me to dodge each and everyone in front of me - you can stop for whatever reason you like.
Insurance will cost me $400 excess and no loss of no-claim, and this includes $500 to replace my helmet - my only gripe so far is that they can't tell me where to take it for repairs and can't say if they'll pay the towing if I get it brought back up here for repairs
Still, all in all they've been pretty good !

dude, bad news..sorry to hear...dunno how many times ive had similar things
happen, the knob in front stops instead of merging....u sure u dont have a
chance of blaming him??
i had it happen in the ute on the way to work one day, OLD (i mean like 70
plus) bugger decided the freeway was moving too fast at 100kph....so he
stopped with abt 5 cars behind him...we nearly had a 6 car pile up...i cut
across the merging bit & almost buckled a rim doing so (they have these lump
things on the roads here to stop u cutting corners) & the cars coming down
the freeway saw it & merged right to avoid a huge pile up...needless to say
there was a lot of horn tooting going on!!
good luck dude, look at a cbr600 ;p top bikes those....lol

No chance - as I understand it the dude at the front can stop for no reason at all and it's up to me to dodge him !

thanks Dave.....
its a bugger and one hard to avoid when the cages don't do what they should!
legally right... roadsense wrong!
if people would only do what the writers of roadrules think they should...

Where did this term "cage" come from? I drive a car and ride a bike but would never refer to myself as a "cage" driver. Seems to me the distinction should be made between those who drive cars and not bikes and those who have both - and consequently have an awareness of the dangers of riding - not lumping everyone in together everytime someone in a car does something stupid. We all do stupid things - in the car and on the bikes.
