Gos, all the lcd's and Plasma's have HD tuners in them now.

We looked at the LCD's but to us the blockines and ghosting was too much compared to how much the price difference was, you had to go full Hi Def to get a comparable pic to the Plasma. Best thing to do it watch the same thing on different tv's, take you time, bug the salesperson, ask lots of questions, be happy with what you get :)

But in saying that, if we could afford a LED we would certainly have bought one :D They're awesome :D

Disco.. I think the LCD's are only 12 month warranty too now (albeit one brand had three yrs - can't remember which - maybe Palsonic?)

Normal foxtel doesn't give a flash pic compared to what you see in the shop as it's not HD, but when you watch a movie it's great :D Chris and I spent the first week just looking at the tv going how cool is that lol

(worse problem we had was that the tv didn't fit in the unit, so I then had to buy a new unit, and put the old tv upstairs, and then I bought a tallboy to put it on so we could see it from bed, and then thought maybe I should buy a set top box for that one - so it ended up an expensive way to get a new tv :D)

Happy Shopping :D

Billy we are shopping today but I will post up the choice later, I thought this was going to be a tricky one & I was right  based off your responses there seems to be a leaning towards LCD but if we go Plas the choice will be obvious in a panasonic Viera.
I am up early to do some more research....... this is not fun ....... there are so many choices & so many diferent opinions :?

Hey Rob,

DON"T BUY LG AT ALL

check out here for viewing distanceshttp://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=16325

If you lean towards a Sony LCD make sure you get extended warranty they only come with 1yr and are bound to break just after that

Samsung are decent LCD the series 6 are at a mid price point and should do you well but they lack customer service especially when warranty issues arise

Panasonic are they leaders in plasma now that Pioneer pulled out (if they were still making I would say get one of the best TV ever)they also make decent LCD.

Sharp make good LCD's but are now behind in terms of tech with the other brands, Sharp they have dropped the ball. ;)

Most important is to bargain with these people, get what you can out of them eg: cables, ext warranty, a surge protector all this stuff is cheap to them and mark most of it up 300% to make money that they lose on the big discount they give on the TV's

If you need a hand installing let me knnow

Good Luck :kuda: :D

Rob
JB HiFi have 15% off tv's till monday so they probally won't budge much from the advertised sticker price cause they are all ready on sale.

Also if you can resist and not buy today (just find the one you want) then go back during the week they are less busy and it's end of month and more likely to do a deal as they need to get their quota for the month it's easier to bargain with them

Clive Anthonys at Castle Hill are very good, I have got 2 tv's from them and are very friendly

Narrowing down & for plasma it looks like the Panasonic Viera 1080 HD
JB have a 42" for $1996 & a 46" for $2293 after their 15% discount + have Wii offers as well
Clive have the same for $1941 & 2646 including a bonus (after redemption) Wii that I dont need

LCD best I can do so far is the Samsung HD 1080 HD
Clive are $ 2496 & Harvey $2899 both include a bonus (after redemption) TV that we dont want

Seems that with plasma we will get mor bang for our $$$

Just remember if you are putting a plasma in a very bright room you will need to close the blinds to watch it...........

I watch bugger all telly so didn't want to spend a fortune. Bought a cheap LG LCD and have not had a single problem with it. The DVD drive in my LG Hard Drive recorder packed it in recently - several months out of warranty. I rang LG and they sorted it out quite happily for me.

For everyone with a horror story about LG, I can match with my own experiences or those of friends, regarding Sony. I will never buy another Sony product.

They all mass produce consumer electronic goods and some of those products will fail.

Point taken smithy, the box only goes on after 7.30pm weekdays & the kiddies get a few early hours on weekends (nick jnr on Fox) while we get a sleep in & they generally dont open the blinds so there are no probs there 8)

I did the comparisons in the shop and asked lots of questions - then came home with an LG plasma 42". Couldn't be happier. All my other LG stuff has performed faultlessly so I had no qualms about buying that brand. Unlike Sony. Everything Sony worked well too - especially the rootkit - and for that reason alone I will never buy anything from Sony for as long as my arse points to the ground.
Samsung lost me with the two mobile phones. I 'upgraded' to a higher spec because it gave me the absolute irrits and the new one is every bit as bad. That's all it takes to lose a customer.
