I think you missed our point - as representitives of the law there should not be any bad eggs giving the rest a bad name. They are funded by the tax payer to represent and uphold the law. Without any respect the population does what the hell it likes - because the police do and we're following their example.ty wrote:ok - so everyone's missing my point.

Because you know that, Mike, because of your years of policing experience.photomike666 wrote:because the police do and we're following their example.

It's going to be really interesting when the race track speed limit is 60 kph and there are camera's all over the trackrobracer wrote:Haven't you seen the ad's seiko1, there is no such thing as safe speeding
I had this big reply typred out and deleted it. Let's just say I have had issues with bent police in the past, and I've watched police come away with far lighter penalties than joe public ever gets.aardvark wrote:Because you know that, Mike, because of your years of policing experience.photomike666 wrote:because the police do and we're following their example.![]()
It seems to me that your perception is your reality and I can tell you, that's far from the truth. Next time someone is attempting to murder you, make sure you tell the Police that you only want them to travel at the speed limit when you call them. There are numerous reasons for travelling above the speed limit in a Police vehicle, and just as many again for doing it without lights and sirens.
If they speed when they're off duty, well, who are you to criticise?
As we've discussed, there's bad egss in EVERY job and "do as I say, not as I do" is relevant to a lot of them. Ever seen the mechanic with the shitty car? Ever known an electrician who has done a half-arsed job in his own house? Been to a doctor who tells you to lose weight when he could lose 20 kilos himself? I have..... I'm all for the - if they can't follow the rules get rid of them, but the lack of Police numbers we already have will become a bigger problem. I don't know how much bigger the problem would be, but it's fair to say that every one we lose is another one that needs to be replaced.
To get around saying "I'm going to do such and such because the Police do" is akin to saying "Hey, watch me jump off this cliff. It must be bloody great fun splattering yourself on the rocks below because my mate did it!".
And to harp on about being funded by the tax payer is as foolish as saying "I pay your wages" when you get stopped by a copper. Shit, I pay taxes - do I pay my own wages? Fuck, I pay taxes and there's a shitload of dole bludging fucktards sitting around on their fat arses smoking cones and pissing the wages I pay them up against the wall. Some of these people are the ones who are out putting their dirty theiving hands on other peoples bikes, breaking into houses and selling drugs to OUR children. I'd rather they get off their backsides and do something with their lives so "I" don't have to fund them, rather than worry about some copper who's 10 kays over the limit.
Obviously I don't know the specifics of your situation, and even if I didn, I'd like to know both sides of the story before I commented. However, the truly bent coppers (and yes, they are out there) should be given the arse and locked up.photomike666 wrote:Let's just say I have had issues with bent police in the past, and I've watched police come away with far lighter penalties than joe public ever gets.
I'm all for coppers giving coppers a fair go for, say, speeding offences. I let Joe Public off from time to time for speeding - my reasons are my own - so it's fair to say that the same applies for Police. Even more so in some situations. Because of their job they should know better and I believe are more responsive to receiving a caution. However, I've also written tickets for coppers in the 1 - 15 km's over category.photomike666 wrote:a dodgy official can almost bring down the government by simply offering mates preferential treatment, the same should apply in the police force.
And I honestly believe that in general, that doesn't happen. You'll get the odd copper or too who is speeding back to HQ to finish his shift, but I doubt that's an everyday occurrence.photomike666 wrote:But that does not give officers the right to put themselves above the law.
And again, I think they do. Normal people doing a really tough job. Sometimes the actions that some take may seem a little extreme, but it's easy to sit up in your ivory tower and criticise and reflect from a distance and after the fact. The lack of respect has nothing to do without how the Police are behaving. It's to do with this bullshit politically correct climate we currently live in and the absolutley pissweak justice system.photomike666 wrote: More to the point, officers need to portray themselves as law abiding citizens or there is no public respect.

Isn't that why they live in Canberra? It's part of their punishment?tim wrote:That's what people who live in Canberra get.robracer wrote:They can fix that......, bring back Capital Punishmentaardvark wrote: and the absolutley pissweak justice system.
