How did I know Mick C would be referring to the Gosmeister :D Oh and personally, never sat on the bike whilst fuelling up either so the "everyone you know does it" looks a little shaky :)

... and maybe they are scared you are going to do a runner if you sit on the bike to refill it??

It's the greatest load of frogshit to ever get regurgitated on bike forums anywhere in the Universe.

Here are a couple of reasons why.....

#1 - Cars have rubber tyres - so do bikes. Where is the greater danger of a static electricity discharge because you are riding a bike ?
#2 - Anti-static straps ....what are they made of ? Rubber. Same things on the soles of the shoes you wear..

which leads me to #3. As soon as you stop the bike, you PUT YOUR F'N FEET DOWN !! Those same feet hitting the deck with rubber soles.....like an anti-static strap dragging along the ground......

#4 - Who leaves their gloves on when they grab the petrol hose ? Who takes them off first ? Does it make any appreciable difference if you ground yourself by putting your feet down first, or grabbing the fuel hose first, or should you do this bare-handed, or maybe leave your gloves on ??? OMFG I am going to die a fiery death because I * sat on my bike* and filled the tank .....

Nothing could be further from the truth. IN fact, there has not been ONE SINGLE DOCUMENTED DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY - every recorded, from a biker sitting on his bike to fill his tank - Understand this. Not One.

But I have cleared several rooms and lit up the nightscape from lighting farts. This is much more dangerous and likely to happen, than my f'n bike exploding in flames from static electricity !!!!!.

Live On The Edge - fill your bike WHILE SEATED ! If you have never done anything as exciting as this, you may very well get a chubby from doing so.

hmmm.. this again..

I believe the reason they don't want you filling up the bike while sitting is not about static electricity, but was incase you overfill or spill any fuel it doesn't go all over your gonads, girly parts, pants, feet etc.... :?

I could be wrong...

BTW
I've never filled my bike while sitting on it, but I have spilt fuel down the tank.... probly cause I was lighting a smoke up at the time and not looking.. ;)
I never use to take my helmet of when I went to pay either.. If I get asked to, I put a hijab on then pay.. :-)

Oh, and there is definately a greater chance of Gos's ass catching on fire than a bike at a servo, but that shouldn't really be a surprise...

Some servos won't release the pump to fuel if you stay on the bike - or they'll cut it off mid-fuelling and yell at you.
Not sure it's law though, just their rules / policies

You forgot to mention the metal core or strips that are imbedded in the rubber strip :P

If you want insightful, intelligent, thoughtful, honest responses........your possibly in the wrong place.
For example, even the person that gave what seems to be anything close to a scientifically proven answer finished with.....

Loving the A style avatar by the way. I was watching motogp with a few friends and i started laughing almost as soon as i saw it. They were all wondering what i was on. I told em to check out the A style logo. I think it took them about 5 laps to realise what was going on. :kuda:

When we used to fill both bikes together I would stay seated and HM would fill both. Then one day the little prick in the booth turned off the pump until I got off. 2 bikes, 3 cars and the ute have never been to that servo since.
I think the actual concern is that you'll fall over with the cap open an spill fuel all over yourself. Somebody should tell them we aren't all Buddhists.

I can't lift the CBR onto its centre stand. In fact, there aren't a lot of people who can.

You forgot something as well. There's a big fuggoff chunk of steel in solid contact with the ground that would work 10 times better than an earthing strap, the stand.
