Kinda not surprised glen if it is an '07 plated bike

.....I had a few gremlin's when I bought my six (the first time) knew something didn't sound right and after a bit of research on US forum's there was a lot of occurances of them dropping valves from worn/deformed valve bucket's from a lack of oil pressure to the head....The '08 even though the same model came out with a different head with larger oil port's apparently and this is what kawasaki put in my bike at a cost to them of over 5k + labour

....
They originally took it in for the rocker cover gasket under warrenty and noticed my pharked valve bucket's

Glen, I would not rule out warranty on it. Maybe give John at mornington a call. If it is a known issue as disco mentioned you could have a valid claim.

It's a good point Wattie.
When we talked about it today Glen I forgot to mention about how the rocker cover gasket kit was replaced under the "recall" program on mine even tho it's a rwo also..... but I left that little detail out in my discussions with the dealer.
Difference is mine's obviously a roadie, the deadX6 is a trackie and depends if you wanna go through ALLLLLL of that work to reverse that.
Warranty claim conditions may be different, but I get the feeling that if you've got a dealer batting for you with the big K you might be in with a chance... you could try Kelens also? They did say to me how that kind of work is a PITA beacuse they don't recover much of the cost back from K.A.

Put the roady fairings on it and take it to Kawasaki dealer..Not that the fairings should matter..

I wouldnt even bother with the road gear. John told me it wouldn't be a problem when we discussed the crank in the Gumby

That'd be me. He's had a crash and a lunched engine in twelve months, you think I'm going to hand him the keys to the classic

I tried to give John a call but he's in tassie racing.
If you can get a friendly dealer ie John then you might get a warranty claim up. Jaimie Aitken once told me they'd look after warranty issues for me.
As for putting road gear back on it and registering it, I don't have much of the road gear left anyway and to some extent I couldn't be bothered. In the end it'd probably cost me more then a motor out of the states anyway.
Best I've had via findapart so far is $2800 plus freight for one with 12000klm's on it out of Perth and one for $3000 exchange out of Vic.
I thik I'm just going to google Bike wreckers in the US and UK

yup had a look, cylinder 3 intake valve looks like someone's making metal soup with valve balls
airbox full of shards

Now we're talking Dave..... if you're gonna go this route time to start checking engine numbers.... I've got a feeling the 08 engine is that much more because it's an 08.
