All booked, thanks for the tips. The next question (and the reason for the thread name change):
We are booked into the Mercure Sydney on Friday night. We check out the next (Saturday) morning.
On Saturday, we plan to have a bit of a look around the Sydney CBD.
At 7:00 p.m. we get on the cruise ship and head off for dinner (with the open bar package), and get back to the dock at 10:00 p.m.
We then have to get a taxi to the Ibis Sydney Airport hotel, before catching our return flight at 6:00 a.m. (Gonna be a struggle that morning!!)
So, given that we have planned this as poorly as we have, does anyone have any sensible ideas how we:
Check out of the Mercure
Go sightseeing in the CBD, without our luggage
Get back to our luggage
Get changed for dinner
Then pick our luggage up again after dinner
At the moment, the only real option I can see is a $60 round trip in a taxi to the airport and back to the CBD.

Most hotels will allow you to leave you luggage with whilst you sight see. Normally in a lock up. I have left my luggage in the past with concierge and spent the day sight seeing without problems. So long as you don't mind getting changed in the toilet at the Mercure then that would be your cheapest option.
Alternatively one of the kind folk on KSRC could help out with transferring your luggage. Sorry waterskiing on Saturday

Do you have airport transfers with your accommodation ????
I reckon.......... get on the Mecure shuttle bus with your luggage to the Ibis. Park your gear at reception and they will take it up to your room when the room is ready.... Get the Ibis shuttle bus back into the City for your day out....

No, as the extra cost for transfers was about the same as a taxi. I'm liking the idea of leaving the luggage at the hotel, then getting changed in the toilet. I've been in a state of undress in worse places.
