Well I missed out on the engine, so unless somebody knows where I can get one, its rebuild time.

So we needed to have a look inside the old engine before deciding if it was worth rebuilding

and it looks to be in surprisingly good nick!


After checking the specs in the book and making special note of the service limits we waved the measuring stick at it. The numbers are almost factory spec - and I was expecting to find them closer to their wear limits. That doesn't look like a 77000km engine, so I checked the engine number against the last rego it had. No match. That explains a lot. The barrels have already been to the workshop and it was decided that we could get away with just honing them, so HM did that at work. At this point I got the go ahead to start ordering parts and with most of it is on its way from the US (and the gaskets from Germany), I could catch up on other jobs ...

This one has been waiting for 3 years.
I've been prepping the plastics in between paint jobs and yesterday we put the crankcase back together. Also managed to strip the paint from the rims ready to paint them, then they get new bearings and seals before the new rubber goes on ... except its raining again and too cold to paint.

and it looks to be in surprisingly good nick!

I wasn't thinking that at 9pm last night. The car was working fine ... until the guy came to look at it, and the starter motor stuck.
So Tim pulled it out this morning and freed it up - and a nice lady came and bought it. Now Tim can take the one I bought a couple of months ago and our house will look less like a car yard. And I've got more money to spend on the 9.

Well its all happening here!

The gasket set arrived from Germany and a box of genuine parts - including piston rings - turned up from the US. Also got new bearings and seals for the wheels and headstem and seal kits for the clutch.I could start putting the motor back together - sump, clutch cover and such - but I still need a couple of bits ( 1 head bolt, 3 cam bolts and the like ), so I'll continue with blinging.
Take one ordinary six potter ...

and after a couple of hours cleaning and painting, and repeat for the other side ...

I was going to do the same to the rear one, but when I examined it ...

Luckily this is one of the few parts on this bike that is interchangeable - and I just happened to have a spare ZZR600 one, so I gave that the Midas touch.

Might have to replace the rotor too. Ah, what the hell - I'll buy a full set of wavy ones from China!
I stripped and repainted the wheels ... and then I couldn't resist blinging that too

Next week will be fitting wheel bearings and finishing the plastics. After hearing Mike go on about Plastex for so long I finally bought some.
Got a couple of mounting lugs to ummm, remanufacture. Like the one the headlight is bolted to.
