zx'er wrote:Even though I am not a big advocate of lane splitting I have had to do it a few times on the 12 and I can safely say that no it's not too wide. Maybe a bit heavier then the 9 but still light enough to move it around quickly when needed. the longest trip i have done is around 400k's with frequent stops and my bum is still pretty ok by the end of the day. My younger brother also has a 12 and he rode up to Cairns on it. Stopped every 2 hours for a rest and a smoke but made gladstone on the first day, mackay on the second and then an 8 hour run up to cairns. He loved it. In my opinion...go the 12, but then I am biased.
I used to be the same I would never lane split and then I was talking to a friend of mine who is an ambo too (theres a few of us here that ride) and he explained to me that its one of the safest things to do. At first I thought it was a bit strange as I always thought it would just be flat out dangerous and stupid but when he explained it I changed my mind completely and will always split now.

Until then I always got shitty when bikes went up the middle, I now realize it must have just been jealousy!!

Basically if you get hit from behind you are finished, in the traffic there is always someone in a cage that is going to stall it or do something stupid and cages can stop quicker than bikes can, often people are just paying no attention on the road whatsoever and are likely to brake at the last second and if you are behind them bam your front end is gone. Also once the lights go green you gun it off the line and no cars around you to worry about at all, it can be dangerous going up the middle but I wont ever do it at any more than about 15ks anyway and wont do it when cars are moving.

What does everyone else think?

I think somebody is fully takin' the piss

I lane-split on my 12 every morning - its a breeze. Grab one at the current price, you will never regret it. As far as 'big/heavy/hard to ride/etc crappola, just ask the person stating this if they have ever actually ridden one ?? The 12's respond really well if you show them who is boss....... of course there is also the *minor* issue of almost 190hp at full noise.......

if you are going to do it, thats the best way....

btw
saw a bloke on a Cagiva on Saturday arvo (Melbourne SE suburbs)
cop a ciggie in the face..it was an accident ..the cager never saw him coming
but
going up between rows of stationary cars at 60 did not help the cause
The Cagiva rider got off and had a go..the cage driver just shrugged

Planet AMCN - test of the '05 ZX12R - rated at 189ps crank HP.
plenty of our US bro's are getting around the 180-185 RWHP mark with nothing more than a PCIII, good pipe ( full Ti Arata), BMC filters.

Dyno graphs from Yoshimura would suggest that my '05 would be running around the 170 RWHP mark with just the RS3 can. Until I get it up to Doin'Bikes to check out, this is only an *alleged* hp

nah dude, i not interested in what the seppo's get

show me your results !

if you tried too push a mobile land yacht a.k.a. zx12 around a track , you would honestly have too be an idiot .
from what i have read they were designed for high speed work on autobahns etc not race tracks.

gimme a 6 any day an all will see is me dissappearing into the distace while you cry about all that unuseable horsepower !

methinks not. During 2001 PCRA season, I picked up 5th Overall for the season (Forgotten Era Unlimited) over only 4 rounds - my 25 year old Z1000 can pull 1'50sec laps of the Creek - did you get under 2 minutes on your 6 ?? If so, well done. Happy to send PCRA results to you if required...... It also laps Oran Park GP circuit in the 1'20 range.......

I can guarantee you 1'40-1'45 sec laps on the 12 - it is lighter, faster, handles WAY better than the Zed, and has heaps better grip than the skinny 140 Dunlop on the back of the Zed.........they may not be *designed* for racetracks IYHO, but when you get hosed down the chute, around the back, up the hill, well in fact everywhere, it won't matter if it was designed to ship camels to Iraq........its a weapon of choice, and a really *choice* weapon.

In the immortal words of Jim Goose...

" see you on the road girlfriend......"

ps Yoda - that is less than 5 minutes from her mums place 8)
