I live a couple of kays away from the Edinburgh Airforce BAse, and right under the flight path. It's fantastic watching the F-18's, F111's and the Orion buzzing around.....
Once a month they get out and have a bit of fun chasing each other around the sky. They are often so low I feel like I could reach out and touch them.
Here's a couple of pics I managed to snap the other day as the Orion came in for landing.

Pity the zero kicked butt on both of them

the Mustang was a match for the Mitsubishi Zero
....only after they stuck the Spitfire based V12 Merlin engine in it

bah you can't make a comparison between the two. the zero was outclassed by the time mustangs entered service.
of course the kawasaki planes were a different matter
It's what makes kawasaki so much cooler than honda, yamaha & suzuki.

planes rock... especially the WWII ones.. I studied WWII as a special project at school, amazing all the things that went on.
Strangely enough I love planes - hate to fly
trains are cool too

Fasinating fact. If you have to abort a landing in a Spitfire or Mustang and you just slam the throttle open, the engines torque will roll the plane over and slam you into the ground.

You gotta love the Mosquito , wow , 2 Merlins and enough speed to ditch weapons to put in cameras and know that you are the fastest thing in the sky ! (at the time) Bit like riding a 10 past a TOG car with a radar gun

& just think they threw young guys with MINIMAL flying experience into these things & expected them to not only fly them but somehow manage to shot other planes down!

All the old WWII planes are just awesome. I painted a spitfire for my brother when he got his pilot's licence - always loved that plane.
