The 1999 ZX-6R costs $7k, the ZZR around $10k.

The 98-01 are literally the same bike except for the nose with the twin headlights, and air duct.

I recon it's a great bike. I've commuted on mine daily (6-7 days a week), hit the twisties and done a couple track days. Dropped a tooth on the front sprocket which gave it a tade more bite.

I haven't riden a ZZR600 to not really my sort of bike, I prefer the sporty look.. But remember the '00-'02 ZX6 is the new ZZR600 so it can't be half bad as a semi-tourer.

Def. take them both for a run and get a good comparison.

owe and something I found with mine is that the fairings seem quite wide considering it's a 6 and gives quite abit of weather protection, esp when a Double Bubble screen is added...

Thanks guys. Another reason I have looked at the 99zx6 it looks to have a more comfortable seat and position for a super sport bike and has very good performance times compared to the latter year bikes though I do know it comes down to individual experiance, but every bit counts
I guess Ill have to go and test ride both but all your info has helped.
Also does the the 99zx6 have ram air??mate bought the bike couple of year ago but knows nothing about the bike.

They didn't change that 'comfy' model till 2003, I think the best 6 to go for is the last of that model shape 2002 (636).

As far as the ram-air, they've all had them for years

Negative... the 03 is the best 6 ever made.... and it will be so until I buy a newer one...

personally i would say get the 98 onwards ZX9R, but the 6R will do compared to other 600cc sports bikes of the era (R6, gsxr600) its a sports/touring bike really. very upright seating position, can be ridden all day long. Yet it can be a very good track weapon as well. if its anything like the 9R (and they are nearly identical) then it only needs a set of good tyres, some adjustable rearsets and the suspension to be setup correctly for the rider (as with any bike) to run some very good times.

as nice as the ZZR might be (not my cup of tea tho ) its always going to play second fiddle to the 6R in every regard.. cept maybe fuel efficiency
