Thanks for the ideas everyone, I particularly like the graph thing Felix, lots of good advice there.

I really should get onto it now whilst I am leading the championship. Coz it won't last....

I am only looking for corporate sponsorship, I don't want to be asking individuals to shell out money just so I can race on new tyres.

Don't wish to sound negative and I guess most people already know this but getting sponsorship for anything is very difficult. It's all related to generating a return for the sponsor for the advertising dollars that they give you. The idea is to work out how they're spending money with you will give them the greatest benefit/return on investment, you've got to think like this for everyone you approach.

You have to think like a business man and put yourself in their shoes.....ask yourself...."If I give this guy $450 dollars to put my name on his motorbike how will this generate extra sales for my company and how much will I have to sell to cover this expeniture."
The benefit that a business will get from advertising at a state level event on a bike is very low so you have to think of ways that you can give them benefit.

So.... you might offer to hand out brochures at the local supermarket where you have you have your bike on display or you make yourself and bike available for any shows/conventions etc they go to. If it's a bike shop you might offer to clean bikes on a weekend or transport bikes around....anything to give them value for money or goods.

Contra deals are good. Find something someone wants or needs and see if you can supply it. Just for example, a formula ford guy I knew used to get coffee off one company and sell it cheap to another. He would then get other products (like oil additives or oil from another sponsor) and give it to the coffee company etc etc. Both companies benefited and he got his dollars.

Inviting sponsors to the track, putting on a little food, getting them involved is a great way to get help/money/goods. But its got to be dome well. Getting and keeping sponsors is very hard work and you will find that you spend more time looking after sponsors then enjoying yourself buts the price you have to pay.

Hey Drim the hand-in-pocket sponsorship is the prolly the hardest to get, would it help if you could wangle slicks at cost from a tyre dealer in exchange for bike naming rights and/or some of your time handing out flyers at meetings/track days?

Just getting the goods at cost would be a great starting point.

And initially the advertising cost to the company will be free!

Probably a bit more of a realistic proposal too and you might be able to get oil and brakepads and stuff at cost too and some new stickers for the bike.

That is what I am aiming for. I do not expect to get free stuff. I think you have to be fast for that.

I will hit up a few of the places around here, like you say at cost price it really couldn't hurt them to do it, because if they won't be losing any sales anyway as I get all my stuff at the track ATM as it is.

I ain't holding my breath, but will give it a go. Even at cost price it is going to keep very poor. Why does it have to be so much fun....?
