Quote I got online from RACV was $120 for 3rd party property, that's for the bike and around $400 or so for the car, so reckon i'll take the bike up, hardly use the car so might give that a miss, almost more than the car is worth...
Oh and that's pretty bog standard as far as insurance goes Mick, there are some that cover your gear but few and far between. Certainy lid should be covered regardless, if you haven't got it on you're riding illegally so that's unreasonable I reckon.

helmets are not covered by westrn qbe as standard but they are reviewing that policy
swan have "optional" helmet cover.
ya would think that cos u need the helmet to legally ride the insurance ppl would cover it wouldnt ya?

yea 3rd party is a minimum, other wise the govt can garnish ur wages for life to pay back the $10,000 damage u do by breaking a BMW's tailight...
as for ur policy Mike, i had QBE, had these items listed
tank bra
new exhuast (staintune)
bellypan
Gear rack etc
and probably more.....everything was legit!!..then wen iu crashed, they wouldnt do shit abt fixing those items as they were "accessories"....yet i had to name em to be covered?? go figure...then wen the bike was written off it was a shit fight cos i wouldnt give em those items....
also NONE of my gear was covered..ive never seen a policy which did include it...
as for ur theory ZZR, i tried it....
crashed my blade, cost me $3k to rebuild it to a state where its rideable...crashed it abt 3 weeks after fixing it, and cost me $4k ...all inside of 3 months....
insuring the bike woulda cost me $2k a yr, plus abt $600 each crash in excess.....so i woulda lost $3200....
so i woulda been $3800 better off..and my bike would of been REPAIRED NOW..instead of covered in damage which i still cant afford to fix...
had i not spent the $$ on fixing the bike, it would of been worth $1k as parts, if i was lucky...

Mick the bike is really yours .......... they in an event of an accident only pay for repairs to the bike
if they want to keep the bike they need to replace it
happened to a mate and his car

We are with Suncorp, and are covered for $350 for gear...this doesn't even cover the cost of a helmet!!

Chikky, most insurance companies allow you to pay monthly, rather than having to pay the lump sum upfront. The disadvantage with paying monthly is that there often is a surcharge of 10-15% to do this, but it makes budgeting easier.

My policy covers NO kit what so ever. No hat, no gloves, no boots and no leathers. They're all considered personal effects and are not covered under any of their insurance policies unless stated as additional items.
They also informed me that if the bike is written off and I want to buy it back, I have to go to auction and bid on it.
Makes me wonder exactly what I have been paying $1000 a year insurance for.
Try reading the Product Disclosure Statement & Policy Booklet before
buying or renewing a Policy
http://www.qbe.com/australia/western/pd ... ikePDS.pdf
Thats why all customers are provided with them.. too see what you are &
arent covered for, & why you have a 21 day cooling off period

If ya have full comp and ya crash ya bike out of sight and can get it away quietly, "No tow trucks", then leave it at friends place, pull the number plate, drill off the VIN plate and grind off the serial numbers. Wait a week and report it stolen. Insurance companies are the scum of the earth and you need to treat them as such if you want to sleep well at night.
