Hmm I can't say I'm not guilty of riding like a tool occasionally ... or frequently :D take your pick.

We all take risks, sometimes bigger ones or more frequent ones. I outgrew the Fisher Price world ages ago.

frogzx12r wrote:Try it ?????? I DO monos longer than 6 seconds and 100m, pretty pointless pulling it up for LESS than that
Mr Frog, what Mr Stereo was saying is don't do a mono for that amount but rather pull a decent mono then try to avoid a fixed object or indeed a moving object within that distance/time limit whilst doing said mono, ie pulling mono down Rocky main st and car pulls out of side st 20 mtrs in front and you're on one wheel at say 60kph, see what time it takes to drop the front, regain control and avoid said vehicle....

It takes a modicum of time that you don't always have the luxury of having is what he's trying to say... not that he doesn't pop monos himself mind you....

frogzx12r wrote:Thats the point of it, its DANGEROUS, thats why we ride bikes (stop kidding yourself) it is just taking the danger to another level.

As I said
Maths dont lie dude
@ 60kmh you cover 16.666m / second
@ 200 you cover 55.55
Get what I mean now ???

Its no different to "speeding", it should be "inappropriate speed" ie. wrong time and place. I dont see monos as any different, in the right time and place they are good fun. Do it outside a school and you DESERVE to be locked up.
Hmmmm does that mean at 300k i'm doing 83.333Ms and 400k is 111.111Ms
makes it hardly worth doing really .... doesnt it

and i can say i dont ride cause it's dangerous
i get more out of it thats all ............ maybe you need that .... but then my Bike doesnt go that fast anyway

see it's not about speed ............ i'll leave that to the salt lakes ..... not the road
see you on the lakes

I am with Frogster here. It does NOT take 6 seconds to land a wheelie and avoid incident all the time. Like the 12 rider says, there is a difference between low speed and and high speed wheelies. The 6 second thing is bunk.

These statements have to be examined in a rational and scientific way to show them for what they really are, which is plain wrong. I am not saying it is safe to do them, but that it can be in the right circumstances. It can also be very wrong. It is just like speed. 40kmh is unsafe in a parking lot, but 140 is safe on a deserted highway. The whole every K over is a killer is a load of BS. The road toll reflects this anyway, but think of it like this:

If 72 is so much worse than 70, yet people still die from crashes doing 70 in a 70 zone, why not make the limit there 60? Or 40 or even 20? Less people would die if we could only do 20kph, but we would never get anywhere.

It is all relative. So if you are doing a wheelie at 60kph and up the road someone pulls out, you simply back off, land the wheelie and ride around the car or stop in behind it. Easy. And less than 6 seconds.

However you DO have to choose the right time and place to do wheelies.

Oh and for the record, I replied to this to make a point, not because I do wheelies, because I DON'T!

come on .. lets be realistic here .. i wasnt there but im sure this guy was riding like a twat.. but i can guarentee u most of us ride like twats every now and then .. doesnt mean every day but im sure not many people can say they havent done something they felt may have been a bit stupid at the time! and like some other peeps have said its all relative, what u think is stupid riding for one person may be the norm to them who knows!

its one of those things that u just have to live with, there are a million dick head car drivers on the road aswell but if we made a thread about every one we would need a seperate forum!

Mitch, take my word for it, this guy was riding stupidly, no question. As I stated in my original post, we often comment on our experiences with stupid drivers so I made the point that there are also equally stupid riders.

I commute to work in heavy Sydney traffic to the CBD and have done so daily for about 4.5 years. I can safely say that each and every day I witness the stupidity of drivers in more than one incident each trip.

Yes I have ridden stupidly at times too and yes we are all prone to doing so. It was this guy's learner status and total disregard for riding what is a powerful machine (250 or not) with the respect it deserves, that caught my attention moreso than the usual traffic dramas.
