So underhanded and sneaky tactics will slow them up? No worries. I think the SA government live on another planet.

got mail last night :( Better start saving i guess.

Thanks for the info aard ;) So they don't need to put any signage up after? Also what are the kmph brackets? is it 1-15kmph over, then 16-29kmph? I can't find any info for brackets and penalty through google or on the sa police site.

There was also a laser gun further down gorge rd that day, then yet another one at the bottom of the hill. Wasn't speeding for either of them, just this one :(

Well hopefully our good boys in vic won't do the same in the spurs or surrounding area . Not that I can ride past the limit around there.

That $128 ride days looks mighty cheap now :D I have to discuss the situation with the mrs :D

Up to 14 over = $179
15 - 29 over = $279
30 - 44 over = $360
45+ over = $510 and loss of licence

At the end of the day, every can wah-wah about the government, but we all know the rules. It's a game of cat and mouse and any one that gets caught was simply outsmarted by the underhanded tactics of the cat.

original stupidly high res pics at http://www.users.on.net/~amckay/gorge/
This was up on the weekend (there's supposedly a couple of cameras in thoe apple crates)

Text of email went:

Hi ya, this is what I found in between Cuddly Creek and Lobethal on Saturday and Sunday, It has cameras facing in both directions. Back of the road was a ute with two blokes in it, just in case you and your petrol can were going to visit.

It's estimated that road fatalities cost approximatley 1.6 million dollars per death. That's from the moment the ambulance is dispatched and includes medical costs, insurance costs etc.

Considering 1635 people died on our roads last year, that's an awful lot of money!

But it's not just the monetary side of things that need to be considered. Human life is not replaceable.

Personally I can't see the sense in this current method of "policing". I guess if enough people get booked, they'll tell their mates that they got done and they never saw the camera and that might be enough to slow other people down. Putting more coppers in the hills to form a visible presence is a better option, but Police resources are scarce enough as it is.

Given the cost of crashes to the community, you simply can't take away the role of the traffic officer. It's all well and good to say that they should be out catching real criminals, but most of the real criminals aren't taking away innocent lives and costing the community billions of dollars each year.

I'm not about to put my hand up and say I have the answer. Speed isn't always the problem, but those who say it isn't a factor have their heads up their arse.

At the end of the day, crashes happen. Not accidents... crashes. An accident is something that just happens. Crashes are caused by inattention, speed, not driving to the conditions, fatigue etc. All things that can be avoided.

I'd suggest that instead of bitching about being busted for doing the wrong thing, that everyone start taking responsibility for their actions. I keep on harping on about this, and sounding like I'm some government parrot, but it's just the way I see things.

If we knew that we could get away with being 15 over, then everyone would be driving around at 15 over. The enforcement of speed limits needs to start somewhere. In SA you'll likely get done at 8 over. Pretty fair I should think.

If you want the adrenaline rush that speed provides, take it to a track. It's cheaper and there's no cows.

I'm sick of these issues being used as an excuse to raise revenue, it's becoming a nanny state. Lets see some pro-active measures taken by the police commissioners in regards to motorcyclist safety rather that pinging people 6 points for doing 72 in a 60 on DDP weekend, as is the case in NSW ATM, it just builds resentment.

The poor bloke across the road from me lost his licence while doing 90 in a 80 zone on Northern Road on DDP weekend (6 points), got the sack from his job as a garbage truck driver and has got 3 kids to feed.

I'm all for pinging people for doing the wrong thing, but it's the excessive fines and points loss that has convinced me it is revenue raising, so some local labour member can take a study tour to Algeria to study how they get their washing whiter than his...... 8)
