Not good mate,hope it worked out OK and didn't hurt anything!

Lucky.. had just pulled up at a red light on the hiway, in a 100k zone, just before grantville, told kazz to go in front, as i gassed it up in 1st gear, it went bang..... lucky we had to stop otherwise it would have happened at a 100ks or so, and that would have been a bit messy... bit of a pisser.. had to go home get the car and trailer and pick it up, but no damage havent had a look yet as to why and were it broke...

I've used all sorts of chains. The one I really liked when racing was the top of the range Tzubaki. Not sure if they are still available here in Oz now as they were never a large player here. But, I had a top of the range 520 non o-ring race chain which lasted more than four seasons of racing. Matter of fact, it was still on the bike when I bought it back some 8 years later

As for a DID failing. I still think it's just a one off man. fault more than a crap brand as such. DID, RK, EK, Regina,Tzubaki all make great chains. I really think they are all much of a muchness and how you treat them has more to do with how long they last than anything else. I know guys who can get 60k from a chain and others who struggle to get 15k. I struggle to get 25k. But, I am a hack!

This one was a split link, as its a roady i couldnt be stuffed messin around with it, was fitted correct, i mean thats pretty well all we had in the old days, so i have done a few over the years, as i said, this is only the 2nd one ive had fail... so i will put this down to me, not the chains fault, tho i havent had a look yet..
But sure as hell will be going endless on the 10, but that goes without saying anyway... but will be doing the peened link when i fix her, dont want that to happen again
funny about mileage tho, on my Z1000 it had 55,000ks on her when i traded it in on the 10, and was still on the orginal chain and sprockets, and i wheeled that thing everywhere, most times 2up as well. but it was maintained well.... and looked like it had many more ks in it still.
My 10 has done 24,000 ks now, and the last 3years have all been track work, and it doesnt like like wearing out anytime soon either.... but i get in there with a toothbrush and water based degreaser and clean it every track day...

Mate, I raced with split links for years without failure and have done hundreds of thousand of road klms with them again without failure. They are fine. Did it fail from the split link, or did it tear a peen link?

Tip: A little silastic will stop the vibes from loosening them.

Please correct me if im wrong but i thought the split link was more suited to non Oringed chains and the peened link was for O ring? its just what i thought not what i know

Tip: A little silastic will stop the vibes from loosening them.

I havent had a look yet, just wheeled it off the trailer and parked it without looking, to farrking hot yesterday... tomorro's job after work...
And thats the thing, back in the day thats what we had, and the one i broke on my drag bike, wasnt the joiner link, it pulled the plates apart.. beleive it or not, we found the chain lying on the strip, so got a good look at it.. that one went thru the lower engine case, not good that wasnt... oil everywhere

No mate.. o ring, x ring... this box had both, fish head, and peened link with it. same as kazz's chain i fitted recently, was the same, came with both..

Just be carefull how you fit the chain, I prefer to rivet them and make sure you check the link with a vernier ( don't press them too tight )and that the o rings have plenty of lube when you fit the link.

last chain I got for the ktm came with these little spacer things you chuck in over the o-rings so you didn't squeeze the rings too tight. I kept them in the tool box. Pretty handy.

Well i had alook at the chain today, and found what happend was thinking i had farked up putting the fish head on... but no.. the joiner link had shat itself, which is the reason the fish head went west... as the split link is still sort of attached to the chain, i got to suss it out.. now i have never seen a split link do this before.
Where the groove is on the joiner link, that the fish head lockes into, it had sheared off at the groove on the leading side of the chain, hence the fish head going west, and the chain letting go.. WTF.... and this been a X ring DID of not the cheap variety...

Yep.. was just been slack, as its only a roady that i dont really ride hard.. but lession learnt Tho ive never seen one do that??? 35 years of riding, and prob a million ks, on over 40 different bikes, twice around australia as young fella, and thats only the 2nd chain ive ever had let go
