From the RTA Crash Lab:

Australian Standards require that helmets sold in Australia have certain penetration capabilities. They use a 3kg spike and drop it on the helmet from 3 foot. Snell and DOT testing does not incorporate this.
Jase
from 2005, Snell (in their M2005 certification) do now incorporate this test-
"Shell Penetration Test
The shell penetration test applies to motorcycle, special application racing, kart racing, skiing and equestrian helmets. The helmet is affixed to a rigid base. A 3 kg sharply pointed striker is dropped in a guided fall onto the helmet from a prescribed height. The test striker must not penetrate the helmet or even achieve momentary contact with the head form."

Sounds like the rest of the world is playing catch up....

You'd think they'd make one standard world wide and that's all that should be needed. But no. Of course not.

A girl I met a while back had an AS approved THS helmet. She came off a bike at around 50km/hr doing a wheelie in a carpark, landed face-first and the front of the helmet crushed in, breaking her nose and obviously causing lots of greif.

Anyone know if the AS testing covers the front of the helmet too? Surely it would... but I wonder how extensive it would be.

Another engine gone but at least the purple and pink are still there, oh yeah.

James - I assume they do test the front cos the viser has to have a sticker too.
Tape - would borrow Mikes but I plan to go out with him when I finally get a bike (when hon thing sells) and im an XS and hes got a huge head  .

Shopping list - bloody everything, there I was just thinking all I need is boots and pants and now it turns out I gotta get new lid and does anyone know if ANYWHERE sell ladies gloves, cos I got a pair of small mans and they still too long in the fingers and air vents on fingers gave me blisters. oh well at least my jacket is ok. This is turning out to be very expensive.
