agree there resale value is crap. when the do end of year runouts for 2-3k cheaper it affects resale......
known problems with them are temp sensor, fuel pumps (changed design the the 2011+ mdls) and elec starting troubles, mainly due to the temp sensor stuffing up or flat battery and incorrect valve clearances.
sounds like you have made up your mind though

what dealership does your mate own?

I must be lucky with my TE510 and TE511, nothing but reliability, many hard hours, and very few issues if any compared to other brands I have seen on the trails.

However, i have had issues with the dealer in SA

If your worried about resale perhaps a dirtbike isnt for you

Pos- there's a few not to far from where I live, 2009 mod in ballarat for 5.
2010 in fern tree gully for 6.5 advertised prices of course.
Ballarat is a decent drive for me 2hrs so I would need to be committed to go and look at it. But it's been on the market for 2-3months.
Johnno - I'm not buying new so its not as much of an issue but if you have enough money to not do research on bikes before you purchase them good on you. It's simply one of the issues that came up during research.
Tim- frankston Yamaha, might not be much use to you though living in nsw. Thanks It's good to hear someone with a good experience though that's the one thing that has been deathly quiet.
Yep heard all those problems as well, I can't afford new so have just been doing due diligence.

I didn't say you didn't mate, I just insinuated that. I said it due to the fact you made a statement about dirt bikes not being for me if I don't want to lose money on re sale.
I was simply stating info that has been given to me. Also not from one source. I've spoken to more people than I think that I've ever done before buying a bike. Especially considering I know nothing about them which I've been completely open about.
No issue. Don't want to start any war of words just simply stating that until tim spoke up I haven't found an owner who is wanting to keep it.
As far as resale is concerned if you drop over 50% of purchase price within 2 years and its been on the market for 2-3months I don't think it's real good. Just my opinion though.
