Now Canberra is nice, with some of the best roads in the country at our doorstep, it has NIL pollution ( except for the porn and the fireworks), great facilities, reasonable coffee, the beach is *close* enough, and in winter, if you are lucky, it will snow !! Just like home mate !!
c'mon Gos
you are not serious

apart from the roads around Cooma (sensational)
and good stuff like the Mint and the war Memorial..and really good porn

its boring..nothing happens very much in Canberra
its Australia's nuclear test site...but no-one knows

Canberra? it even bans front fences and straight suburban roads

Melbourne will probably feel like home to a pom, but Brisbane really is the place to be. I don't know the roads elsewhere but head in basically any direction from Brisbane and you've got great bike roads (except East, where you'll go 'splash'

)

Adelaide is, well, Adelaide *yawn*, not much happens down there.
Settle down Gos....or else we'll stuff you in a barrell!!!!
My 1st vote would go to Adelaide.......unlike Shitney, Smelbourne (and Brissy for that matter) where they ride an hour to get to the twisties, in Adelaide you would have been cutting some of the best condition, and awe inspiring roads in OZ for 45 minutes.
We have some of the best housing prices, the worlds best wines, just about the cheapest lifestyle with no toll roads at all. Nothing is more than 30 minutes away (and thats no joke), in the other capitals it takes 30 mins to get to the local deli.
And the best thing about Adelaide is if you don't like someone its
practicaly leagal to snuff them, stick the body in a barrell and hide it in a disused bank vault.......just think about the advantages of that!!!!

mate,
IMO it all depends on what work you want to do, go to the place that offers the best balance of lifestyle V's work

Any major city in Australia (except Darwin that place is off the scale when it comes to heat and humidity!) are nice places to live although sydney is a bit of a rat race and takes a bit to get around, it still has its appeal
Canberra - quiet and nice, some nice roads nearby and still only 2.5 hrs to Sydney
Adelaide - Like canberra, but with better bike roads, however very quiet and around 8 hrs from a decent city (melb)
FYI i have lived in Adelaide, Hobart, Sydney, Melbourne, Albury/Wodonga (small country town!), and Canberra, I have also spent countless weeks on the Gold Coast visiting family

mate, all the roads due *east* from here to the coast are sensational !! (that includes all the NE stuff up to the 'Gong, via Kangaroo Valley, etc.)
stuff directly to SW includes *all* the mountain roads.......
I guess I was referring to a big doorstep..
Plas -

the only other thing I didn't mention was the *large* percentage of Germans who settled in SA !!! ( Don't mention ze war) - maybe this explains the *barrel* thing

o.k, i will try to be objective here....
Sydney - Best location (halfway between Brissy and Melbourne. its about 10-11 hrs drive to either), but high cost of living compared to Bris, Melb. has everything you need/want.... but at a price.
Melbourne- Best for motorbikes. great roads, the best race track (victorians are mad about their racing... motor or horse!!). but you may get booked for being 4kph over the limit
Brisbane- great value for money!! cheaper fuel, housing and vehicle registration. great, relaxed lifestyle and beautiful weather.
hope it helps, good luck with the move

I am a newcastle boy that moved to sydney, and my ideal spot would be the central coast - best of both worlds and less than a hour to sydney and newcastle, great beaches etc. and access to some of the best roads, Old Road, Putty, Old Bells, Wollombi etc.
Keep in mind Sydney is all the bad things they say it is, but it is where the action is, jobs are easy, everything is here etc.
Newcastle is pretty cruisy and laid back, however you can get a few bogans there.
So halfway would be my pic. CENTRAL COAST, actually live on the old road, it's beautiful.
Brisbane is too hot, sorry.
Melbourne is too cold, and full of trendites, and the cops will shoot you proly, they are nuts.
Tassie is for the birds, but a nice holiday.
Adelaide, where's that.
Perth may be one for consideration, I hear it's nice.
Canberra is good too, spent 6 months there for work, loved it, no traffic easy life, porn in abundance, but a bit lacking in excitement, I'd move there mid 40's.
It's a hard one, think of Sydney as the London of Australia, biggest and best of everything, be prepared to pay for it though - keep in mind you usually earn more money here so it sorta evens out.

Lived in most states and visited the others enough to know them well enough. Been in Melbourne for the last 8 - 9 years and have no plans of moving.
Mate, live where you farken want to... Doesn't matter, you'll hate it after a while and wished you moved else where anyway.
Brisbane will fark you up with the heat and humidity though.

I'm from Sydney ....23 years there........Balmain born........
I moved to Melbourne cause my fella (Tape) lives here.
I lived on the Central Coast for 5 years...... I loved it !....."Gods Country".
My rellies live on the Gold coast.........It's hot up there.....
I love Sydney.......but it's fast. Gotta drive for 1 hour plus to get anywhere and you have traffic everywhere and Double points double fines......... It rains more in Sydney than Melbourne but a "Sydneyite wouldn't say that". Sydney's got Woolongong, Putty Rd, OPH and the Blue Mountains for starters.
I love Melbourne...the people here are nice, still gotta drive for an hour though..well from where i live anyways... We got Reefton, the Spur and the Great Ocean Road.
I love Qld........great for holidays.. lol
BUT I wouldn't move again I'm a Melbournian Now........
Apologies to those who don't want me here.....I'm here to stay...hahahaha.........
The only advice is Go where there is Work.
