I know a bloke that insists on a plug & a patch for safety reasons. shoulkd he fine but just keep an eye on it as they can deform at the patch if they are close to a belt.

Gosling whats the word on these dunlops have you given them the treatment yet??
My licence comes good tomorrow and all i have is a 014 front and a 020 rear that did the pi trip and a heap of dunlop slicks with varying amounts of wear left in them and need to know how they handle the cold (warm up quick) and fell nice.
Will turn the bike back into a roadie in a few weeks to a month.

If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

will be going out tomorrow for a bit of a test *thrash*. All I have done on them so far is a ride to/from work, thats it......
will let you know tomorrow how they feel, so far so good, but the mold-release is barely off them at the moment......

Went for a fang today on the normal loop, with a bit of an *extra* section thrown in for good measure........Barrabob wrote:.....Gosling whats the word on these dunlops have you given them the treatment yet??...
they are bloody fabulous. Mega-grip all round, the *feel* from the front-end is very confidence-inspiring, even to the point of belting into some corners at > imperial ton with *no* braking, just drop down 1 gear (heh, the engine is a big-enough 'brake'...

all up I am impresses with the early indications.......no wet-weather stuff as yet, but at least the chicken strips are fully gone on LH side, still have a couple of mm left on the RH side.......

front tyre will need track time to ditch the strips, the profile at extreme angles is almost identical to Metzeler Racetechs (ie very steep at the edges....).
May 10th at Wakefield is looking *good*..........

So the verdict is a big *thumbs-up* !!

Cool gosling so its racetechs next time hey, I reckon anything would warm up qiuck on a 12r and we will be doing some days out at warwick where the tracks like ice till 10am but thats probably every day in canbera.
Chicken strips
I thought ya tried them out...nah just kidding, what did you end up paying for a set of them.

Nice to hear this Gos... was pretty impressed with Matho's report now I have it from a 12 rider as well.
You did have me worried when you said you like your "old" Dunlops, then I seen it was a GPR's NOT the shit that came standard and spun in any gear....

Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

Frog - I agree about the 'stock' 208's, but the 208's off the shelf were apparently quite a different tyre ?? There has been some issues with a lot of 'stock' tyres fitted as OEM tyres, they are *not* the same tyres as you get at some later date.....fuck knows what is going on there, the tyre guru's probably have a better idea......
I would recommend the Qualifiers without hesitation, even after this short period, they feel that good. Wear factor ??.......if I can get 6 months out of a pair, that would be great.......

The reason the tyres are different OEM to what we get as replacements sometimes, is due to Factory specification. The factory will specify to the tyre manufacturer what tyre and compound to use after testing numerous different ones. I believe the factories choose the harder options to ensure some sort of tyre life, assuming that most riders arn't that good and will never out perform themGosling1 wrote:paid $480 the pair fitted......Barrabob wrote:Cool gosling so its racetechs next time hey, I reckon anything would warm up qiuck on a 12r and we will be doing some days out at warwick where the tracks like ice till 10am but thats probably every day in canbera.

it hurts, but you can't skimp on a 12......

Having said all that, I just bought a set of Dunlop Qualifiers that have been taken orf a new arsehix racer! They apparently arn't as good as the ones we get here as replacements, but I doubt if I will ever put the to any real test either Gos!!

I will let u know what i think when I put them on. I still have maybe one maybe two rides left in the Rennsports. I am pretty chuffed about them though. The front one has done 8000klms and still has mountains of tread left. It's lost it's shape though now. It's gone really pointy

The rears I am getting about 4-4500k out of. I got a little more from the first one than this current one, but I have done some two up work on this one and have worn the shoulders out first this time rather the the usual part.

I read a report on the new Sportecs in either Rapid or Two wheels can't remember which, and they raved about the new Sportecs. They are probably more equivelant to the Qualifiers in as far as profiles and compounds so should get even more wear out of than the rennies too. They did a track test on them where the rider took them out for loads of laps, like a full 20 minute session, giving them a pasting and said unlike most sports road tyres which fry themselves within 6-8 laps, these hung in for the whole session without going off

"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me" Hunter S. Thompson.
There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

Strika being 100kg which isnt huge i find the road tyres going off pretty quick at the track and have formed a habit of comeing in before the end of the session maybe a few minutes early especially if they are 20 minute sessions.
Things tend to work way better in the morning sessions especially if its overcast and i will have to dig into some of these mags if there doing local track testing although you have to be able to spot the diference between real opinion and paid for opinin which is why i would rather ask someone here.
People keep telling me the metzlers are the shit but the price usually scares me a bit and the 800kms some people i know get out of them.
One of the problems with oems is the bike company bought a million sets at a fire sale then fitted them to bikes and stored them somewhere for a while so they are not fresh rubber generally.
The ones my bike came with michelin no longer made so i reckon they where going cheap.
