Mick C wrote:The Ducati doesn't have that much of a top speed advantage anymore anyway...certainly nothing like in the first round. Rossi had a few goes out of Stoner's draft down the straight, particularly because he carried a bit more speed onto the straight and seemed to be able to brake later. Pedrosa's Honda seemed to be pretty quick in a straight line too.
I agree, Honda and Yam appear to have matched top end speed but I think the Ducati still accelerates faster and seems to have much better and more usable power out of the corners. Around the back sector watching from Rossi's bike, Stoner would pick up a lot of ground out of the corners.

If Ducati could get a good front end and a matching bridgestone front tyre, Stoner would be unbeatable. Rossi is unbelievable under brakes.

i just abt did my load in the space of seconds... Casey held off the one they consider "the best ever" (i still think doohan was better) ... and Randy showed us a good view of his radiator... wot a great finish...
You can't be serious. Rossi is far better than Doohan was.
Even Burges thinks so.
im deadly serious...

Rossi came from a dedicated bike background, Doohan had to do it all himself...Doohan mastered a bucking bull..Rossi mastered a Race horse... ..

Doohan was a true aussie champion.... he will forever be the best in my eyes, and if not for injury, he would of won a few more championships...

but thats just my opinion...

Although Mick is the best because he is aussie, l've always thought that his record wouldn't have been as good if Wayne Rainey hadn't have had that crash.

Yeah, but they were all on "bucking bulls" back then. Doohans was just better than everyone elses!

I started watching the gp after the dohan era, i did watch one race out of the archives that he owned...er won and as soon as there was a microphone under his nose he whinged about his bike set up and then went on to whinge about track officials and lack of set up time.....

Talk about tones of Fogarty and Biaggi!

I agree.
But as for Rossi V's Doohan they are racing different bikes at different times against "some " different riders. You can't compare.

i think i'll "un-hijack" this thread from the vale-doohan comparos and bring it back to casey's amazing ride at catalunya.. without a doubt it was one of the best races i've had the privilege of watching... even more so watching it all from stand E at the catalunya racetrack, yes i was right there at catalunya waving a big fukka of an aussie flag that i bought on the way to the track for ten euros.

and in response to the aussie aussie aussie oi oi oi somewhere earlier in this thread, after the race the missus and i went for a short walk around the track and bumped into a young russian bloke with his missus, this russian dude had wrapped round himself an aussie flag, with the numbers "27" in the bottom right corner! its good to see its not just the majority of us aussies cheering on stoner but others around the world that recognise the kid;s ability, not as a second year rookie, but as an accomplished rider that gave it to rossi bigtime, and on a machine that, by the looks of the race, doesnt have as much of a top speed advantage that rossi et al were highlighting in every post race report!

in the UK atm, heading for donington park GP next weekend!
