.....

sounds like the go......mate I tried some chin-ups the other day

massive fail.
OK - time for the weekly update.
I did the first ride to work this morning, was going to be yesterday but got postponed to today....so the 6km ride in the fog

, it has 1 long stretch of uphill incline, but apart from that it is reasonably flat - took 20 minutes exactly, door to door.
This was about what I was expecting, and there is definitely some time that can be made up in a couple of sections. So the goal for the ride to work is 15 minutes. This may take a week or 2

to achieve....
The ride home was slightly longer at 25 min, but I took a different route to check out other pushbike paths.....
Got on the scales ..........and pegged in at 113.5. I am not convinced of the accuracy of these scales, they are a few years old, so I think a decent replacement set is needed to get accurate results. After getting 115.2 on Tuesday, its hardly likely that I have lost 1.5kg in just 2 days....
All I need now for the ride in, is a new iPod. That would be perfect....
Let's see how things are in another week.....

Mate you should only weigh yourself once a week, and at the same time of day. eg before breakfast on a Sunday. Your body weight will fluctuate a bit during the week say if you weight just after having a meal...
or a decent crap.

+1 but dont be disheartened if you fluctuate in weight cause you'll find with lots of pushy riding you may start to put on muscle around your legs.
Canberra has plenty of great pushy tracks which Im sure you'll discover soon enough

If you know you've got a short day at the office, walking 6km each way will give you a decent workout

I spent 3 years commuting on my pushy and walking to work which was the same distance before being shifted. Some days you think "WTF Im spent" but keep at it Gos

This is a great thread Gos!
I have been around the 100kg mark for a while now - i crept up to about 110 at one point but im pretty active these days so at the moment im about 97kgs.
Im pretty sure because of the awesome dollar you can get a 2gb Ipod shuffle from the US for under $50. Get the shuffle, then you can just clip it to your collar when you ride.

Yeah when I was keeping track of my weight loss and because I was hydrated, my weight could fluctuate from day to day by a kg depending on how salty my dinner was a night or so before....If I had a big Laksa I could see the weight go up for a couple of days then come back down again after a day of peeing.
.....then I decided that knowing this was almost as bad as how well I know the Crim's fuel economy so I stopped keeping track so closely

Not hard to drop weight after exercise Gos . Just for an experiment one time I weighed myself before and after a 45min gym session . Dropped a kilo even with drinking during the session .
Keep at it Mate . Can't afford a new rear shock right now .

They'd wanna fuckin work too!!! I haven't put any on my bin lid but I have too, the other week, I got swooped by one magpie 3 times. You've never seen a lardass on a bike pedal so fast in your life....
That sound they make just as they pull back up is enough to make you sweat

well I have continued to ride the pushie to work this week - only missed 1 day due to a flat tyre

- but that has been sorted. Good news is that the burning sensation i get in my legs when belting up a hill, is gradually getting less and less each day !!
Bad news is - the scales are only showing a slight weight loss- down to 113kg today. I guess that is better than nothing....

pictures to come...

Not to be a downer Gos, but it can take a couple of weeks (in my experience) to see changes.
It's like your body wakes up and goes 'oh hang on a minute, we've been working out! better see to those homer bits now'.
I'm back up to 104

2 weeks of no gym or runs due to work demands and all the hard work's trashed
Stronger efforts next week for me, and good luck to you Gos

A slight weight loss with increased excercise is awesome - you are burning off fat, but you're also building muscle which is heavier than fat. The net result is a good deal of fat burned even if the scales don't show it.
I have started riding a couple of times a week, and am spending 30 mins a day doing light weights. Being it's a 35KM trip to work I don't ride the treadlie, but I use the 4 flights of stairs instead of the esculator in the station and walk up the stairs to the 4th floor office I work in.

Gos, TOP WORK, I'll keep checking back

Are you feeling like you have more energy? That's my favourite thing about exercising, the improvement in my mood.

I am - that is a great description. I feel heaps ....better....in some weird way. What is really good, is that I can push the big old dinosaur bikes up the back-yard slope from the workshop to the sheds, without feeling like I am about to have a coronary !!
