Nice but no cigar. As the story is from the UK the relevance to VIC or even Australia is nill.

However this is a bullshit ruling, so if I walk down a street where it is known that robberies happen I must be at fault. Lets hope this stupidity doesn't make it here.

That is why I said similar.
Australian law is founded on the principals of British law, and going by the comments from the truckies on this thread, I would expect a similar mindset from the judges, and a similar ruling if a similar case was brought to court.

After reading a few threads at least it's now obvious, I didn't cause all of the agro around here

Exact same thing happened to me today through the black spur,and has happened to me on reefton a few times thats why its important to always ride at a pace where u still have something left.Sure wont save you all the time but your chances are a lot better

I recently acquired my HR (Heavy Rigid, not sure if its called the same thing down south) licence here in Queensland, and have been looking for work in the mines. Due to the fact that I have absolutely NO "practical" experience driving a truck of any kind, I have been finding it difficult. That was until I was talking to a truck driver recently who told me to give a bloke up here a call as he was looking for a driver. When I told him I had NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL, his comment to me was "don't worry about it, just lie mate!" (This job is for the rebuilding of the Blackbutt Range, and is not a place to learn how to drive a truck.) In view of the truck driver bashing that this thread has produced, I wonder how many of these "bike killers" are people who have taken that sort of advice and are WAY outside their comfort/ability zone. I'm not condoning the truckie in the video, he was clearly in the wrong no matter what speed the rider was doing, I would just like to know the statistics on how many truck related accidents are caused by inexperience drivers.

Pretty rare you can get a job driving a truck without a minimum of 2 or 3 years experience, cause insurance companies usually won't insure inexperienced drivers. Most Insurers require a Licence printout which lists when your got your Heavy licence and your driving history.. That said, I would be careful about lying about your experience, you may find yourself in deep shit if you have an accident.

I was thinking the same thing, however I'm not one to lie, so I didn't take his advice. Insurance aside, truckies talk to truckies, and as soon as the owner realised I didnt have a clue what I was doing, I wouldn't get another job around here.
