By the way, I didn't say that this person was anything but a good solid road rider, who advanced my Novice skills! He does not ride at racetrack speed. But, racetrack speeds are not for the road are they? For you to say what you say obviously you either are, or think you are Mick Doohan!
I think you'd better read my post again matey, I did not infer that anyone was or wasn't this or that or that I am/was/will be any better at anything than anyone else. :?
I merely stated that I didn't think your 'mentor' rode well/fast AND had mechanical skills/knowledge, we may not be thinking about the same person.
FWIW, I WISH I was Mick Doohan (or GOD as I prefer to call him) :prayer: :prayer:
Wot the Fark are you on about!?!?

Anyone who is in the fold of motorcyle religion knows the holy trinity consists of Kevin Magee , Micheal Doohan and Wayne Gardener!!!

Mate wot's the issue here? Strika may have his quirky , little boy craving , penis obsessive , lesser rider denegrating moments from time to time but over all he rocks!!

Oh , to be honest I'd be happy to pick the rubber off my visor after following some of our brothers n sisters through the twisties. Why? coz I KNOW I ain't A grade GP rider material (despite owning a RZ5 for several years!).

and what Tape said too!!

Mentoring rocks!!!

when I first joined up here I was pretty clueless (and dangerous too from all accounts), but after some serious mentoring from one Mr A. Ardvark, I'm now a LOT safer and a fair bit quicker too. I'm no GP rider, but now less experienced riders ask me for advise.

I don't know what you read into my comment to Strika that made you think there was an issue that I needed to get over. :?
BTW, it's spelt f-u-c-k. ;) We're all adults here, we're allowed to say that word

Yes but out of respect & to keep the site relatively clean an abbreviation is just as good, I have been on a site recently where when you post an expletive it changes the word to goat or haggis, it's quite funny, anyway it's totally your decision to swear like a trooper or not, but just in case there are kiddies on the prowl or visitors having a peep, it helps to be discreet.

Cath wrote:But when I first started out, there was one person who mentored me damn near every weekend. Between encouraging comments, general chats about riding, specific pointers and limitless patience, I'll never forget the help I received from Ty, up and down the OPH. I'm sorry for all the times you had to wait and wait and wait for me to catch up, but I'm very thankful you did, because you were one of the most instrumental factors in improving my riding and my riding confidence.

Mentors are great. I would be very proud to one day have enough knowledge and ability to similarly pass on the stuff that has been passed on to me. So thanks to all the mentors out there - you provide things of great value- and a specific huge shout-out to Ty, who I consider privileged to have had as my mentor.
Wow - two shout-outs in one week - first from Dave, now from you.
Thanks to both of you - I've had a sufficient lack of sleep (Zane, now 8 months!, is teething big time) that I'm emotional enough to actually have a tear in my eye.
I didn't mind waiting on any occasion for either first Dave, nor then you. It was a huge boost to me knowing I could help you guys out, build up a friendship, and then seeing you guys progress and easily keep up before very long.

I'd only been riding myself for less than two years when I started riding with Dave, which I think goes to show that you don't need decades of experience to help others out. So long as you don't pretend to know everything what you do know can help someone.

It also doesn't need to be particularly onerous on your time. I was already riding every weekend when Dave and Cath joined me.

Thanks Cath, and Dave.
ty
PS. I'm not looking forward to getting out to the track in one respect - you guys will leave me for dead now ;)

i dont give a toss whos giving me that advice as long as its the right advice :P

a bloke i know spent some of his time imparting some knowledge and skill when i began riding
that i didnt possess and he was happy to share his thoughts
and i fumbled along the way , but he would always have a few words of wisdom
this fella also helped me shop for a new bike when that time came
anyhow generally was a wealth of info
and this from a total stranger

and whilst id like to call him a mate
i just cannot come to terms whith a serial porn-bike riding -mutha who is a tyre whore that has now moved to nsw

im not sure what the point was now ..........
probably should have been in robyns thank you post

it cetainly helped this noob and is still much appreaciated

No one's steamed this end either...apart from the fact that I just had a post all typed out and the puter dropped it somewhere when I hit submit!!! :x

But, that's sacrilege calling Doohan God...what about Peter??? ;)

We are obviously speaking of different guys, as this guy could hang a 1'50" comfortably around the Island on a stock 954 roadie and could hang 66-67 around Broady on the same stocker. He's no A or B grader, but he's not slow.
HE can also twirl a spanner. SO maybe it is different people. But it's the fact you said NONE of them had any skills that caught my attention!

Let's chat about it when face to face sometime!

How quick does that ex craggil 9 get around the track?? What's it doing around the Island these days? :D

Can someone mentor me please? I keep confusing ambition with ability and crashing. It's getting embarrasing pulling myself out of q heap from under the BMX.

I'm glad you didn't take offence to what I said Marty, it seems some others have flavoured my post unflatteringly in their heads... unfortunately that's the nature of internet forums, you have to be sooo careful about wording what you say. On the upside, it appears the KSRC brethren are quite protective of their long term members.

Now, let's get one thing perfectly straight here... MICK IS GOD 8) Accept the Lord into your life & reap the benefits. No further discussion on this matter will be entered into.

Yep, I'm fascinated by this mystery Touring Club member now, it renewed my interest in the club so I checked out the website, there are some top rides coming up & I've decided to re join & do some more "Spirited Touring" ;) It'll be good to catch up with the lads again & shoot the shit (I see you're leading a Don Rd 'Roll down the hill race' later in the year - what's the John Dory there?) we'll hafta discuss it over a beer/spliff for sure.

Tragically, the ex Craggill ZX9 is still about 10 seconds a lap off Marty's 1998 race pace around the Island, a skatey 1.49 on fucked slicks at the last race meeting before I binned it, 64s at Broady, I've only been to Winton once doing 39s (I hate that track, its Mother & everything it stands for :x )

Note to all; During the typing of this post, I looked like this -> :) so if anyone flames me over its content, I'll look like this ->

;)

Yeah I am supposed to lead a ride up the Don rd! It was supposed to be listed as a "Roll down the hill" Not a "Rollrace down the hill" That's illegal you know! I have missed leading a couple of rides. One due to the bike being in bits from a crash and the other from being fucked up the financial arse! I will try and get out for a few rides in coming weeks with the club, so PM me if you are going to go!

Your Broadford times would put you in front of Simmo in the New Era/Pre-Modern class at the Interclubs KA!!!!!! :) Are you doing that or the Hartwell series?? Or just track days?

I gotta get that 6 of mine going and back out again! Now I have no wife/kids/dogs to divert attention I might see about getting back into it. It's two years this year since I turned a wheel on my MA licence!! The old 6 still likes broadford! If it's dry it can still hang a mid 62 on supersport rubber! But, It falls over if I try going any faster! The Island isn't as happy on the 6 though, it won't go below a 46 these days. But I think it's me getting a bit whimpy and nothing to do with the bike  . The bike's prolly still capable of a high 39, but I aint going there in my lifetime!

Did the last 2 races of the Interclubs at Broadford last year & had some ripper dices with Simmo, another ZX9 & a hotrod ZX7 for the lead, it was the best fun I've ever had on a bike. 8)
Get off your arse & get the 6 ready for the next round, it's not until the 12th of Oct. (at Winton unfortunately) so NO EXCUSES. ;) If you're not there, we will bag you mercilessly & question your sexual persuasion.

Hmmm

Dunno wether some of you noticed but this would be a classic 'internet forum' ie not everything typed is literal , normally quite the opposite in fact!? Not everybody typing is sober or either(no names required)!!

I personally don't really give 2 fucks wether you love or hate Strika there Kak addict FYI. I don't know either of you from a bar of soap but ol mate has some pretty good info on tyres and other things (got Roadsmarts on Fairy now - not bad!!) so I'll pay credit where it's due and seems like a decent kinda bloke.

So like I said "Build a bridge" 8)

And don't take everything so farking serious!? for farks sake LOL

(making me swear as much as farkin Gos!!!) :P
