From what I can see this is the total per year. I wonder what the numbers would be if you took into account the growing population?
Did you even check to see if what you were saying was correct Hoffy?
Or are you talking in comparison to other states?

I been reading this thread with interest. Now I come from a police family. My wife's parents are both police, here Dad a retired Hwy patrol inspector and her mum is still serving. Shirena is an ex military cop but also worked with several police departments including the FBI in the states. I also have several mates who are ex army that are pretty high up within various police forces around the country, which sometimes helps.

Over here in Tassie the police have a different approach. In the ROT we have several serving police both male & female. Now there is good and bad in all types of people. Over here so long as you behave around towns and school zones the coppers will give you a break. I got done for 138 in a 100 zone and walked away with just a warning. The reason simple I kept my big mouth shut said yes sir no sir and walked away with my licence.

I often sit and listen to the big noting mainland rides who go on about how quick they are and how us poor backward Tassie riders should ride here when they come over and visit. I just laugh, because most of these so called big gun riders wouldn't know shit from clay and could ride if their lives depended on it.

I have also been pulled over in Vic where a young copper started to lecture me about the mod's on my bike. I got my back up and said to him. "Mate you can give me all the tickets you like! I am going back to Tassie where this shit just doesn't matter and I will throw them where they belong in the bin. Where I live you won't find me so really all you are doing by booking me is wasting my time and yours". The Sgt with him stepped in pulled him aside had a word to him, he came back to me said he was sorry, he'd had a shit day and told me to move on and have a good day. My point is it is about respect give it and may get it back but it is a two way street the whole time I was respectfully and looked him square in the eye, but sometimes you must stand your ground.

Lastly if all of us challenged the fines we get for police and speed camera's we would tight the system up so much it would take years to get to court.

Anyway they are my thoughts, take care all of you and above enjoy the ride! Sometimes if you want to be a big dog then you have to piss on big trees!!

Careful. Some smart government statistition might find the correlation between the rise in fender defects and lowering of the road toll. That there is direct evidence that the more times police defect fender eliminators, the lower the road toll will become.

Are you now implying that the police are responsable for the road toll? How would you have the police correct this then ( since they are responsable), stricter enforcement of the road rules?

Each individual is responsable for their safety on the roads, aswell as the safety of those around them. NOT POLICE.

As for the asian drivers issue, that's a topic that should be reserved for a different thread

Dutchy you can't have it both ways. I am not saying the police can stop the road toll nor are they responsible for it, but you can't say that they have an influence in the lowering of it but have no influence when it raises. There are many factors to why the road toll rises and drops, most of which are difficult to exactly determine their value in bringing it down. EG 1000 more police in HWP "might" reduce the toll but by how much is the hard part.

Social awareness/ responsibility, lower average speeds due to traffic, better enforcement, better roads, better cars, the weather during peak times, number of pedestrians, social events all have an influence along with enforcement. However when the tolls go down it because of enforcement and when it goes up people aren't listening, the two are not mutually exclusive.

I don't concur with Hoffy that you have failed (as in the police generally) nor would I suggest that you can claim a roaring success. I would say you have contributed but by how much requires much more investigation and still in my opnion would not accurately determine the percentage as it would depend a lot on interpretation.

I'm having difficulty locating the part in my posts where I state that the police are the reason for the declining road toll. If you have read it as such I apologise for not making it clear enough. My intention was to post the statistics because Hoffy stated they were growing and I knew he was wrong.

Probably the same point I was making with my "more fender eliminator defects = lower road toll" statement/pisstake earlier.

No worries Ducthy, it just look like that was what you implied, which is what we here in NSW everytime the toll goes up or down.

To be fair cop bashing is just part of the bigotry that all of society are guilty of.

OK, went to vic roads after work to lift defect..
guy that came out to have a look is a bike rider himself, asked where it happened, when i told him he said mate why are u riding around heallsville and the spur anyway, thats been going on for a couple of years, was just a quiet day out with the girlfriend. he said himself and his mates had stopped a couple of years ago for said reason.
SO back inside to do paper work, now this gets good, but is my fault as i didnt look to close at the defect, only what had to be done... as he types in rego number it comes up as a de regoed plate thats not in the system anymore. seems this police officer wrote the wrong rego down, was one letter wrong.... but anyway, all sorted now..

Nelso, im aware that TOG dont have anything to with catching crims ect, my point, right or wrong is simply that with some of these guys heavy handed tactic's gets us offside and wont help any of them... that and the stigma of been a dobber makes it extra hard, but without going into what imfo i have that would put a very very loose cannon away for a long time, i do often think that all this aside i should... because it would solve another crime that he commited, this one involed a roadrage with a semi auto hand gun... but i still struggle to ask myself why should i?????

There may be a situation where as police you must enforce/act because that's your job, no matter what side of the fence you sit on. I've never had the privilege of defecting a bike due to the lack of a rear fender. Take from that what you will.
