mate just a head up and if i was u i'd look more closely into this.
A $10K doesnt mean that u will only get stung with 10% (which is the GST) but u'll also have to pay duty. Last time customs charged me 17.5% duty plus the 10% tax.
The 17.5% duty that i was charged is related to the VAT component in europe.
Mate at the end of the day u might have to pay $2750 on top of the $10K.
If thats the case, i (just speaking for me) will pull out and source them locally.

Well thats not good news! What was the value of the product you got pinged for?
If necessary I may even have it shipped in 5 or so different lots if it will help.
I will discuss it with Simon from HEL UK and see what he recommends before going ahead with anything.
I suppose the good news is even if it is 27.5% that still only equals $31 extra per person, which still puts the lines at less then $150 per kit.
I will find out more info and will let people know.

Speaking to Andy he is fairly sure VAT wont apply also mate, so it would just be the 10% if we do get done by customs. He is double checking with HEL UK though before we go any further.

I've imported stuff from overseas before without getting taxed (camera, slider, exhaust, etc..).
So bring it on
ps. ask them to "gift wrap" the goods.

As far as I know (and this is my memory only, so dont rely on it), GST gets charged by customs if the GST calculation works out to be more than AU$50 (ie value of goods + postage is over $500).
So, for a package valued at $10K, yes, you will get charged GST, unless it is a GST exempt item.
Also, splitting the package up wont work, because customs will take this into account - if you are receiving 25 packages worth $400, they consider you to be receiving $10K worth of goods, and will have to pay.

You shouldn't get stung for VAT as the goods are being shipped out of the UK, but you will probly have to pay GST as a minimum. I cannot see how a package of that value could get thru unnoticed.
You may also have to pay a couple of fees as well as the 10% gst. I can't remember what they are but if they are being couried they are higher than through the post.
I bought some frame slider and rearsets from the states with a stated value of $250 us and got stung $100 by customs and the submission fees, it would have been 0 if sent by the post as the value of goods that don't attract GST is higher.

Alright guys, after lots and lots of emails back and forth with Simon from HEL UK, we have figured out a nice easy way around this problem. Basically whats going to happen is they will post out the kits in 40 or so seperate packages (2 - 3 kits in each package). This will mean the package value is only $200 - $300 AU each so it should pass through customs without any problems (especially since its post and not courier).
HEL have said they can do this for us at no extra charge!
frogzx12r and wes_zx6r05 already have multiple orders each so thats great I can just get HEL to send them directly to their address.
For the rest of you guys, do any of you know each other (or live in the same city) and can pair up?
This may sound like a hassle but there are two advantages. First of all its being sent straight from HEL to you so you will get the quicker then if they had come to me first. Second of all the $10 I charged you all for postage isnt needed anymore so if you want it back I am happy to refund it for you (yes thats right - even cheaper lines now then before!).
So yeah, if you know you live close to any of the other people on the list please sort it out with them and let me know who you are pairing up with and what address you want it shipped to.
The quicker this gets done the quicker we can place the order guys!
