Been wanting to attend the rider survivor meeting at Glorious for a while- they had one booked in March, which was postponed, until May 21 apparently. I have been checking the Queensland Transport website whenever I think of it (about fortnightly) and missed this one. I'm sure I checked it before the 21st. Bloody well publicised- didn't see any mention on any of the forums I frequent- KSRC, Bris bikers, QMRF, Two Wheels, Overclockers, OzFirestorms, etc etc.
Guess they really didn't want anyone to come. Anyone here go to it?

I would say you would be better off, going and enrolling in one of the advanced riding courses avalible, than wasting your time going up there to have someone to tell you not to ride fast up here talk, or we'll book and harrass you, and have them do a licence check and road worthy check on you while you are there, and there's the cost of your course payed in full if they get you.

I am more interested in their expertise in motorcycle safety- as a motorcycle instructor I am fascinated by their way of solving the Mt Glorious safety issues for motorcyclists, particularly considering NONE of the police in charge ride a motorcycle.....
I guess it only leaves them ENFORCEMENT.

You talking about the one at Canungra? Rode through there on a group ride, we didn't stop.

There were a few bikes there, I only found out about it a couple of days beforehand, a customer at work told me.

There was supposed to be one of these 'safety days' held at Mt Glorious- just badly publicised- that's why I missed it- same thing was held at Canungra, and Mt Mee I think as well- a bit far away for me.

To be honest, I think if we don't start attending these things or start getting active when they give us the chance, how can we complain that they don't listen to us?

When I am back at work, I might post up a link to the Q-Ride and motorcycle safety thingy for Queensland Parliment. It is asking for submissions and closes next year sometime (May 07, I think). So plenty of time. We'll be doing our bit to be heard, otherwise it will be left to someone else (ie a beuracrap) to decide on our behalf what's good for us.

Don't get me started ... again. I heard on the TV news Yesterday that The Qld State Govt. are Employing another 350 Police to Address Drugs & the Road Toll.

FFS that'll be 3 plain cothes Asian Coppers At Darra Railway station. Which will leave 347 "Blue clad Laser weilding Arseholes" with a fetish for Fenders Lenghts Harrassing the crap outta weekend sportsbike Mountain Riders.

Hmmmmmmmmm yep Felix. I think many of the people with responsibility for road safety work from a point of ignorance when dealing with motorcycles. There is talk of making 20 hours riding experience mandatory for Q-ride prior to licencing- I would applaud that as I find many people need that to become GENUINELY competent at the Q-Ride competencies- I discussed this with a current Q-Ride Service Provider recently and his comment was 'we'll have to take people around the block for 20 hours'- shows how much he teaches his clients in his Q-Ride course, huh.
I also rang one lady who is high up in Q-Ride admin because I wish to attend Q-Ride meetings- I am an accredited Q-Ride trainer and assessor as well as a current instructor who teaches the competencies of Q-Ride for another service provider to assess for licences, with four years experience and fifteen years motorcycle experience. I was told that I was not welcome at the meetings because it is only for service providers. My reply was: 'So are they just business meetings?' Answer was 'Yes.' Obviously got jack to do with motorcycle safety and do not welcome any input from accredited trainers.
Was pretty browned off that I got no notification of the Parliamentary meeting re Q-Ride and Queensland motorcycle safety, held a couple of weeks ago. There is a lot of work to do to the Qld licencing system. NSW has some good ideas.

Yep which is why we need to start being heard.

TOOTS - Traffic Offences Other Than Speeding. We need to drum that into the g'vmt. Stop wasting our money telling us speed, and speed alone is the great evil on the road. Tailgating is much, much worse...as is drink driving.

Oh, and Bonester, one of the things I picked with the questions in the submission, is Do riders require a higher level of training than car drivers? My answer is going to be along the lines that at the moment both are woefully inadequate. I am rather annoyed that all the responsibility and initiative at the moment really rests at the discretion of the Learner.

You can basically choose to have as much or as little training as you want, be barely competent to operate the windshield wiper and still be sharing the same road as me...grrrr...

Ahh my favourite bugbears- I asked a cop a while ago why they don't book people for tailgating? His response was that they do- when it causes an accident- bit bloody late isn't it?
Half the problems caused on Ipswich- Brisbane road are caused by tailgating- people blame the road...bullshit!
I saw TWO rear ender accidents on that road recently within 10 minutes! Yes it is congested, but tailgating makes it far more dangerous.
As to driving whilst impaired by alcohol? Pretty obvious I would have thought. Why more speed enforcement than booze buses- more $$$$$$$$ available there.

Persactly...

Ipswich road can be heavily congested and slow, but it grinds to a halt altogether when some numbnut following the car in front too closely leaves themselves no time to react and slams into the car in front - then EVERYONE gets to sit in the car doing 2km/h for the next hour. Dickheads. I haven't seen an accident in the last 9 months of using the Ippy M'way that wasn't a rear ender...

I will go a bit further bonester and say that driving schools dont teach their students collision avoidance and roadcraft and i am talking in a car here.

A little bit of work in a closed environment with a few whitches hats could teach so much to many 17 yearolds that are about to get their first hyundi exel.

Just basic stuff like its easier to change lanes than to brake to late lock it up and ram something up the arse.

It just has to be drilled into them early in the peice.
