Going from standard drear disc to wavey....

Im gonna buy myself a nice new Galfer wavey rear disc for my zx7r..Do i need to also buy pads to go with this or can i use the standard pads? Is there a size difference in the pads etc?. Ta guys.

You should be able to use the same pads if there not too worn. Just skuff em up a bit to get rid of any glazing.

why change the rear and not the front?? most of ur braking is done with the front...

id replace the pads too, so u dont have uneven wear..depending on how old the pads are of course...but im a perfectionist..

I have to agree with Neka (except for the perfectionist thing pig-pog), for the price, definitely chuck some new pads in there while you are at it.......

... I thought Galfer made pads specificaly for their discs ?
Surely pads are like most things and a trade off of longevity and grip.
My 7 eats rear pads, I'd be going for new ones. If I was broke I would sand and replace at first opportunity. Not as if its a big job to change them

Im only doing the rear as the fronts cost 275 English big ones!.. Plus i dont really like the look of the front waveys tbh. I probably will change the pads then for compatable wavey one then aswell. Thanks for the input chaps..

but why change the rear?? do u have to?? is it buggered?

u may not like the look of the front waves, but wot would look worse IMHO is normal front and wave rear...u can buy Braking wave or standard round for the same price...

oh.. 275pounds... i paid $900 for the 3 discs from memory...

$900 ...Jeessss ! I was looking at Braking ones too. Get'em on e bay at a good price too. The rears not shagged but its looking a bit rippled! Just being a bit fussy i spose. Im taking the wheels to change the colour etc anyway.

Yep 7's are pretty hard on the rear disc.
Mine is "rippled" as well. If you take it in and get it shaved it will get the ripples back in short time.
For those that havent seen it. (and I ASSUME Wessa's is the same, most 7s are) the ripples run arund the disc, diametric ripples as opposed to radial. You would swear it has had a LOT of rocks caught in it but they are not sharp edged. No idea what causes it, you would guess heat but that should warp, not ripple ???
Now would be a nice time to find out wthout hijacking

Anyone got any ideas why 7 rear discs ripple ??
You DO tend to trail the rear disc a lot on a 7 is the only hint I can think of. I went for REAL hard pads on the rear too, soft (race) on the front.

Just to let you know.
I just ordered a pair of Braking Wave rotors to go onto my Streetfighter.

$650.
Only thing i have to wait for them to come into the country.
Like anything shop around and you can get a good price.

Just as a guide, the rear wavey made by Braking and the wavey pads to go with, is costing a total of £82 inc p+p.. Dont know what that is in Aus dollars but it seems a good price to me..

As a general rule to convert Pounds to AUS$ times it by three.

You can get some great bargins in the UK but postage can be a killer.

anyway..u dont need specific wave pads...just new normal ones..dont get suckered...
