I want to firm up my front suspension a little, can I just add some more fork oil to suit?

That will firm up the last few mm's of travel, generally done to stop bottoming out.
To firm it up over the whole range of travel, either, wind on preload, add compression or change to thicker oil.
or heavier fork springs..$

It all depends on what its doing..
Set the sag, then if it feels to soft add compression and if thats not enuff thicker oil.
If you can't set the sag enuff, you probly need heavier springs.....

that'll be it. The current springs are probably the originals, and have sacked out.

Get some Progressive Springs Mick, they are the best modifiction for the money you can make to your front end.
