Thank you for your email concerning the restricted sale of non-violent erotic films. I have been requested to reply to you on the Premier’s behalf.
The Premier referred this matter to the Honourable Kerry Shine MP, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister Assisting the Premier in Western Queensland who has advised that the current laws in Queensland enable consumers to make informed decisions about the materials they choose to view or purchase and also aim to protect minors from inappropriate materials.
While I appreciate your strongly held views on this matter, concern is regularly expressed by Queenslanders about the relaxation of the present laws regarding x-rated material.
The Government needs to balance the strongly held views of those on each side of the argument. While the sale of x-rated videos and DVD’s are prohibited in Queensland, it is not illegal to own, possess, order or view the material in question.
Again, noting your views, there are no plans to alter the legislation in Queensland.
