Well i got the new rear tire after the last one refused to hold air any longer and the bike has been sitting for a few days, so the new tire take it easy thing was right in the back of my mind.
I pull out of my drive and while still slightly turned gently opening the gas and hey presto it spins up big time going totally sideways . Instant reaction is to chop the gas and it highsides me out of the seat head against the headlight.
I think the only thing that saved it was good luck! God it was a messy save at that,but hey i stayed on and only have sore ribs from hitting the screen and a twisted finger( and maybe a lack of brain cells from friday night to)

well done...i ussually push the bike so i can str8 line it without turning
when on a new rear..then i light it up until the middle is clean, then worry
about the sides!!

I am going with the use grease and wax remover on the new tyres before i ride it school these days I got burnt the last time..good save at least it keeps the bike all shiney.

Some of the tyre shops will clean them up with a die grinder before they set you loose on it and that seems to help a lot.

that's an interesting thought beryl, most modern tyres these days dont need to be ran in as such. The silicon sealant ppl refer to or the other name they say that slippery shyte on new tyres, cannot be scrubed of anyway so why attack your new tyres with a grinder?
As they say take it easy for 50km thats not that hard and then hit each corner step by step and you'll be fine or go buy pilots

Not so Musty, Tyres for Bikes hit the tyre with a die grinder while its in the wheel balancer n It takes 1/2 to 2/3rds of the wax coating off the tyres. Thats one of the reasons i go there because Mick at Goodna is at least 5% cheaper. I also think the bike shops have something to gain by not cleaning the wax coating off i eman whos gonna be the closest place that sells footpegs etc after you low side your pride n joy. $$$$$$$.

Mick @ MTM Goodna rubs a solution over tyres(forget what he calls it) while on balancer so no need for power tools. Then just take it easy for 1st 100km's i reckon. Got to go see him this week..........hope he has the tyres i like.

I finally got my new set on Friday when it was 30+ degrees.... Took it (gently) straight up to Flowerdale and surrounding areas for about 250km....

Seems to have worked well....

mate, you are right modern tyres don't need running in but they DO need the mould release taken off 'em ...slippery shit it is
(needed to get the 'cooked' tyre outta the mould)

I follow what you say...take it easy for 50 and then slowly
thin those chicken strips
and you will have no problems after that

Tyres for bikes use a die grinder on it too they just lightly shred the shite off the surface and a good idea too,I never had a problem with the slippery new tyre till i bought my new 636.

They just grind off enough so they arent slippery all the moulding marks/chicken strips are still intact which i think is a really good idea but if i go elsewhere for tyres I will be going with the prepsolv pecause its not worth binning a bike over a new tyre.

Ohh there is a fair pile of shredded rubber on the floor under the balancer I suppose it adds up to a fair bit of mileage for a lot of bikes.

I've had 17 bikes in 20years of riding new tyres have only eve caused me issues once, that was in the wet and brand new, but honestly if someone went my tyres i just bought with a grinder i would kick the jeebers out of em and go somewhere else.
just my thoughts.

I have only had the green tyre experiance the once unfortunatly on a brand new bike about 800 meters from the dealer and as i went to round the bend in second gear at about 3000rpm yes going very slow the back tyre turned to teflon yes very slippery indeed,new unfamiler bike with the worlds worst setup( might have suited nackers going through a kink at 300kph well might have been too hard for that too ) well the rest is a waste I would rather go a bit of a grind.

But enough of that Next time i go for a new bike I will take a van full of tools and do the after delivery(all the stuff they dont do in the pre delivery) before i ride off.

i'm glad there is all this info on the forum, that way it stops me from being a neka on my bike.
