Just a few questions about track/road tyres:

1. When u use a tyre for a track day and it bubbles on the edges, is it still good for the road :?:

2. Will the tyre bubbles caused from the track, wear out on the road during general riding :?:

3. Should u have 2 sets of tyres, one for road and one for track :?:

4. Any comments on tyres that have been used on the track and have handled differently on the road or did not feel right :?:

I've had one of my mates say that his Pilot Sports didn't feel particularly good after a couple of trackdays...but that's the only time i've heard anyone say anything. Road tyres are made to withstand a lot of heat cycles.

You have to go fast enough to worry about what happens to your tyres.. I was running Diablo's and doing about 2min 5 sec in the last 2-3 sessions.. my tyres were fine.. I was hoping to see some signs of me having pushed it hard, but they didn't look like they were run anywhere near their limit... So you shouldn't have to worry..

If your talking about buying second hand tyres then that's something completely different..

I wouldn't be buying race tyres (i.e. Michelin Pilot Race, etc) secondhand. If the team doesn't want them, they're most likely shagged.

I see a lot of them on Ebay advertised as "only used for one session".

mina,
as a guide for you.......

1. There is a reason for the team off loading them

2. If they have a bluish tinge to the rubber....steer clear, they have been cooked and will be as slippery as new tyres but it don't wear off

3. Please do not take offence, but to ride slicks you have to push hard to get some heat into them to make them sticky and I don't think that you are quite ready for that

i wasnt actually talking about slicks or hand me downs from a racing team.

i seen a pair a slicks at a motorcycle joint after the aus supers was in qld. the tyres did look farked.

The reason for the question is i have a mate who offered me a pair of 012ss for $150 to get me out of the shit at the moment cos i have a puncture and my tyre is about a millimeter of the indicator. so instead of getting it plugged i was thinking to ride on them until i get the pilots and then keep them for track use or vise versa.

He's put the tyres through one track day and he's done about 1000km's after that. The tyres have about 80-90% tread on it. The reason for him selling the tyres is cos he got pilots brand new cheap cos he works at a bike shop. so i figured i might grab'em until i get over the chrissy shopping money hangover. The tyres imo are in very good condition.

What do u guys think :?:

I can't see a problem with them...if they're going to get you out of trouble, go for it.

I was thinking you were talking about the ones i mentioned before that are often advertised on Ebay.
