hey guys,
im after changing my sprockets and chain, i was going to do this through a shop but a few complications have changed my mind and i will end up having to do it myself.
I was told that a standard set up for a zxr250 c model is 14/48 for the teeth. My one is 40 at the rear but im uncertian for the front but i have a hunch that its 13 or 14, i know one tooth is a difference but my bike is very tight in the lower range, then it goes through well after 11-12 grand rpm.

i want to know what set up you guys who own zxr250's, i want acceleration in the mid range and still enough to get SOME top end.

i was told to go with a 14/41 set up but thats very similar to my set up atm. and i was going to do 13/48 but thats very close to standard. has anyone got a different set up, also what speed do you hit in the first 2 gears. if it helps my first gear hits about 60-70 at redline and on 2nd gets up to 110-120.( roughly)

this is very confusing for me and im sorry it this annoys you but i want to get it right the first time and i want a good set up without changing the sprockets 5 times to get it right.

Remebering i want accel in the mid ranger around 7-8 grand to start kicking in properly, atm my bike is to tight in the mid range of my rpm.

cheers

if you want more acceleration down low go a larger ratio, 13-48
if you want more top end speed go closer ratio 14-40

id personally go either 13-48 or 14-48
oh and dropping 1 on the front is like gaining 3-5 on the back ;)

Hey fadz when i recently changed my sprockets and chain i kept the standard size front which i think is 14 but changed my rear from 48 to 40 tooth , and i like what i got , because when i had the 48 it will rev too hard in any gear and it was bad on the fuel milage ,but with the 40 there is nuthing really down low but i have great midrange and top end on it now , plus i'm always hard on the gas most of the time , so it moves quit well up high . hehe cheers brendan ;)

well atm its probably 14/40, i don't know how much acceleration and what other changes happen to the bike if i go with the 13/48.

this is a bike thats riden 2-4 times a week, so it has to be practical lol.
i have to try and find a bike with a similar set up so i can take it for a test ride so i know how it feels. if not ill jus learn to change it myself and have 2 sets of sprockets.

i went to mca and i saw the book for sprockets, the rear comes in size 40,41,48 and the front 13,14,15,16,17 so theres alot of set ups. i don't know which one to go with! what a nightmare.

brendan i have the same set up as you atm, the only good thing is the petrol and i can high more of a stop speed but takes quite a while to kick in.

Well when i had the 48 rear the acceleration was great , it was quick of the line when i'll give it a bit, was fun but fuel sucked it up badly, so thats why i changed it down to 40, huge improvement on milage and crusing speeds less revs so i'll be sticking to it. But hey fadz the accelleration isn't to bad with the 40 rear it's only a matter of revving the shit out of it from standstill and it moves really well , that's what i've noticed. And btw i got my new chain and sprockets from flywheels and in there book listings they only had 40, 41 ,48 , but when i asked about going to the 41 tooth he said that it won;t make a huge difference to the 40 so i left it at 40 and i think it''s fine with me. Hope you make your decision well . cheers brendan ;)

I'm running 13 front and 41 rear and i have no complaints at all, and since i got the bike running well and able to rev right out to redline i've never looked back! Bloody little screamer!
