Wiring/lights issue

Hey guys

My headlight connector has melted to shit - it was replaced before I got the bike, but died again and I've just gotten by with high beam only. I got keen and fixed it the other day, but it's melted again and also fried my flasher relay. I've replaced the flasher relay so the indicators work fine now, but still no headlight.

It has a blue globe in it and I've always noticed it's VERY hot (even within 10 seconds of starting the bike) so I'm thinking that at some stage someone's put the wrong globe in? I don't really know about these things and the globe was in it when I got it, but I figure the numerical markings on the globes aren't suggested lottery numbers but actually imporant in choosing the right globe.

Also, anyone got a headlight connector & a few inches of wiring that they can do without? Hate to buy a replacement if someone has some junk lying around.

Got a replacement plug, now just gotta wire it in and get a new globe.. and cross my fingers that was the problem in the first place!

Repco were thoroughly unhelpful, so I made the (longer) trip to the bike shop to get one.

Globe is H4 (E1) 2D7 12V 60/55W P43T for anyone that has the same query later.

Some one has probably gone and put a 100watt globe in maybe. what is written on the old globe?

i had that happen on my rf when i bought it, ran hot as anything, and i lost lowbeam on my first nighttime ride with the bike and had to make do with highbeam

When i went to splice the replacement, in the connector was charred to hell and not looking pretty at all. went back to a H4 - 60/55 and never had a problem since.
