hey all,
some of you may know (other post) about me wanting to change my sprockets, its been 2 weeks and still no one can give me a definite answer to when the rear ones come in.

some shops have the front (13 tooth) but no one and i mean NO ONE has the 48 tooth rear sprocket, they are telling me it will take 1 -2 weeks and that was last week and they are still saying the same thing.

imports are driving me wild. i want to ride my bike but the chain i got on it has really bad tight spots and i don't want to damage it even more.

i've tried the popular motorcycle stores. and sitll no luck!

i was told that there is one supplier of parts into australia? is this somewhat true?

Have you tried at MAW or MCA accessories stores? they should be able to get in aftermarket ones that are cheaper.

If you're happy to mail order try chain gang or I got my chain & sprockets from these guys Solomotoparts, and it seems that have the 48 tooth.

Just for clarification. are you sure the 48 tooth is stock? Most road bikes run a smaller rear sprocket. 42-45 would be normal.

The chain i have no problem with, and i've tried both MCA stores, i haven't tried MAW.
the front sprockets i can gte are 13,14,15,16,17 and the rear i can get 40,41,48.
my bike atm has 40 rear and i think 14 front, aparantly zxr250 come with the stock combination of 14/48. that says it in the book that MCA product book. Im just burning because summer is coming up and i want to ride t a few times before i respray it because then it will out of action for 3 weeks.

Put up a photo . I reckon it will be the same sproket as a KR-1 and I have one . (for the standard price )
Think tho that 14 / 48 will be very high gearing .
How was the bike with the set up that is on it at the moment , gearing wise ? Get away from the lights OK ? Cruise at 100kays in 6th OK ? If it did , leave the sproket sizes the same .
Going to a 48 rear is a big jump
Edit , Think you should stay 14/40 or for just a bit more zip off the line a 41 . A 48 has to be wrong .

unless you are into stunting.... then i'd say buy a bigger bike, not a bigger sprocket

14-48 is pretty short, and the Chain Gang says it's stock (and it's what's on my track 250). However, first is pretty much useless with that gearing even with the 18 inch rear, which is the reason for the short final drive gearing.

For a road bike, I'd be sticking with taller - 14-42ish. It'll still beat most cars off the line.

bike runs absolutly fine but the chain needs to go, so i want to do all of it together. i don't mind that closer ratio, i want to try something different, ill have a look at other combinations and see what i like i think i might go with 13/41.

with my bike it dosen't really want to move unless in 2nd and also for a good run i have to hit it over 11,000 rpm so i can really feel it go all out.

Welcome to the world of 4 cylinder 250s. The ZXR250 makes maximum power at 16000 - 16500 rpm, and the lowest red line is 18000. 11k is midrange. If yours makes decent power there, you've got a good 'un.

With a 13 tooth front and a smaller rear it's highly likely that you'll have problems with the chain scraping the swingarm. You'll also experience higher wear rates of both the front sprocket and chain due to the decreased radius.

well atm rusty, its doing exactly that, theres all grease and chain marks on the swing arm,
im going to do with the stock standard 14/48 just so i don't have to go through anymore hassels.

Just in case you dont know , not trying to be a smart arse , a 48 rear will make it rev to the moon . Not only will first be nearly useless but second and maybe third too . Bigger rear = more revs at lower speed .

not only will ti rev higher but it will drink petrol like a v8 lol but v8 done my research, and later on if im feeling unsatistified ill jus change them.

If it were mine I'd be a lot happier about 14-48 than 13-40. At least the 14-48 won't be doing damage, however short it is.

By the way, you mentioned that your chain has at least one very tight link. There's a major cause of your swingarm marks - tight links make the chain jump around an awful lot.

While you're at it, check the swingarm protector - if the chain's been thrashing around for a while it may need replacing.

14/48 is the standard sprocket set for the zxr 2fiddy.........
