Getting CBR250R trackable - tires and fork seals

I'm trying to convince a mate to join me on Oran, but I have to help him get the bike trackable first. So first question is: how much and how difficult should it be fix the fork seals which are leaking? No idea how to do it but i have a haynes for my bike and would use that a guide. Or just get someone else to do it more likely.

Question the 2nd: Tires... fitment 110/70-17 and 140/60-17. Is it safe to use 120/60 and 150/60 tires? The rear in particular would allow him to use supercorsa or pilot race if so. Although BT090 Pro come in 140/70, just don't know anything about them.

I am committed to make this guy addicted. Won't be hard if I can just get him out there once.

Mate I usually dont touch anything in the forks, like seals as you need a proper press to getting the in properly.

as for the tyres they should be fine. i ran a 140 rear on my 250rrrrrrrrrrrrr without any dramas

But was your standard fitment a 140 or a 130? What I'm unsure of is whether I can go up in the width from 140 to 150...

there are plenty of good tyres that come in a 110/70 front... he wont need supercorsas or pilot race if he's never been to a track... hell bt45s would do, or if u wanted more grip, pilot powers come in 150/60 and 110/70 front... maybe even the dunlop GPR100 alpha thingies that billy keeps recommending...

Thanks for that jeebz. Looks the shit. I have had a look at the Dunnies also Owen but I know he would prefer Pirellis for sentimental reasons. They were on his Duc when he first bought it and they were the tires he used to learn how to take a real corner. He has a done a track day before on a Duc and his last 3 bikes were R1s and gixxer thous. I fully expect him to be knee sliding within a few sessions, so he needs the best tires possible.

Actually, the point of the day is that he doesn't wanna sell the thing and can't be bothered parting it so he wants to go out and see if he can crash it instead. I said if he hasn't done it by the last session, it's my turn to have a crack. Still gotta convince the lazy bastarge first.

Ok so don't do the fork seals and use the tyres that are on it EASY!!!!!

Forkseals, technically you can do them yourself, provided you have a rattle gun handy. Personally having done them once, the amount of effort required to do it if you don't have the right tools for the job is far more effort than it's worth. Getting them in is the easy bit, a bit of pvc pipe cut to the right length (and even with a sliver taken from the length of the pipe and gaffa taped down to suit to give it the right diameter if needs be) will just slides them in with no damage whatsoever.

The fun part as mentioned is 1) getting the inners out and 2) getting any retaining circlips holding the forkseals out.

Your best bet would be to if you want to go halfway with this is talk to your local bike shop about bringing in the forks (drained of course) and getting them to replace the seals for you. Then you can use 2000 grit wet & dry to remove/clean up any pitting on the fork travel length, fill and set up the forks as desired without the headache of dicking about with fork (dis)assembly yourself.

Get some Dunlop Alpha GPR-10's on it. Dont go to a 150, he'll run off the front, I know I was *right* on the edge of my front with a 140 rear, a 150 might just be enough to lose the front if he is pushing it right to the limit.

Excellent track day tyre, not likely to crash due to the tyre if he runs these.
