While I've got my carbies off I took a bit of a squiz down the intake ports and found my engine has some pretty nasty deposits on the backs of the intake valves. Just wondering if anyone has ever had this and had any success with fuel additives in getting rid of it

get one of the intake/injector cleaners the car guys use
(the Ford or Holden one) and wack it in the next tankful of juice
and then go for a long hard ride....

i like those kinda solutions..... i can "say" i'm a real mechanic by just dumping some liquid in and riding... GRRREAT!!!.... yeah, on saturday i re-surfaced the intake valves shimmy pad clearance whatchamacallits....

How about the carbon build up inside the cylinders? How to get rid of them, is there any product to use without taking the engine apart?

Or just fill up with one of the premium fuels containing cleaning additives (i.e. Optimax, Vortex Gold, etc) and take it for a run and flog the hell out of it.

My engine must be spotless.. cause I do the above regularly.. HAHAHAHA..

Actually no I don't.. I ride very sedatly.. You'd think I was on a 250..
I'd better get some more octane boost for the track day to clean my engine out

Fuel additives do nothing dont waste your money.
Put it back to together and forget about it,maybe get it tuned if it`s hasnt had one in a while or running shit.

I wasn't talking about the stuff you buy in Autobarn, like Wynns etc

I was talking about the stuff the car dealers use to clean out fuel systems
and fix FI systems. I have seen the 'befores' and 'afters' and that stuff really cleans fuel and inlet systems

mind you, i have seen the advertising for the various fuels (the caltex one springs to mind) where they say Vortex cleans ...everything
and I am not sure about that

the way you rev the farker you're the only one that thinks you are still on a 250

I've done a little research and motul makes a bike specific additive thats supposed to sort your valves out in one or two treatments so I'm going to give that a go. My valves need to be shimmed and I'm getting that done in a couple of weeks so I'll have another look into the ports then and see if there is any difference. Its been running fine and my carbies are spotless inside. I'm just being anal. As far as fuel goes I use BP Ultimate. Its the only hi-octane fuel up here apart from Optimax.

Now I've just got to wait three more days until the new slider arrives.

I know that lucas works great on diesels and another one is fuel doctor it is also very good once again on diesels..I have had a few diesels in my time.

Useually i use that stuff at like 300mls to a 70 litre tank so just throw in half a bottle but a fuel injected bike is a diferent beastie all together the fuel docter is a detergent type thing by the look of it and the bottle says suitable for race fuel and 2 stroke and you can get it at supercheap if nothing else it will clean out any water and rust in the fuel system.

I believe that they run tolulene through the injecter systems at car dealerships and one of my inlaws recons the fumes are leathal when they do it.

I also know where hammers comeing from with the can of no more fa$#ked engine.

The lucas used in large volumes will move the carbon in a diesel and have it reving nicer and useing less fuel (not my imagination) but god knows what it will do to your bike.
