ZX12R Advice
Hi Guys & Gals,
after some advice on a ZX12R, Im looking to upgrade and want a 12. Just would like to know the differences between the 00-01 model and 02 onwards? Is it worth getting a later model one?
What are peoples experiences with ZX12's?

Re: ZX12R Advice
There were many changes in the first few years and less towards the end of the model run, the A's are '00 and '01, they have a slightly different frame, ECU, fairings (cosmetics) to the B models, infact the 2000 and 01 motors are even quiet different internally. The brakes are often talked about being upgraded, sorry changed from 6 spots to 4 in 03 apparently the 6 pistons heat up the disc when worked hard ??? I like the extra bite of the 6 pistons. They are a large sports bike with great power and torque, my biggest gripe is how hard the seat is.
I have an 05 model with 23k on it and plenty of extra's that im thinking of selling when you start looking

I hear the 00 ones are unrestricted - but force you to wear jim jams to all ride meeting points
The 04 (radial calipers) onwards are a faster point to point mosickle than the 00-01. BTW when was the last time you needed to do over 300kph
Just my HO

Re: ZX12R Advice
i have a 2000 model
no modifications to it at all.
crazy bike
ive had the throttle wide open 3 times
once i was doing $2.60 and the other 2 times i was leaving a black mark behind me.
im almost considering a zx6 or another 9 so i have a bike that i can thrash instead of the bike thrashing me.

Yes, get the later ones for the upgraded brakes, ECU and better, more refined overall 'feel'. The early ones were unrestricted, but imho pretty uncomfortable. The later 4-spot radial brakes are a big improvement over the early 6-spotters.....nicko wrote: .....Is it worth getting a later model one?.......What are peoples experiences with ZX12's?.....
Experience ?? Just an awesome bike. Can tour with the best of them, and still be a weapon in the twisties.....not as nimble as a 10R for sure, but still heaps of fun once the suspension is set up.
Get one - you will never look back !

yep.....jammys are a requisite to ride the unrestricted 00-01 modelPhil wrote:I hear the 00 ones are unrestricted - but force you to wear jim jams to all ride meeting points![]()

like mine

as a bike to ride ALL ZX12rs are awesome
I find mine a great tourer...eater of miles and awesome sports barge
(ignore softies who complain about the seat...270km at a stint is easy)
I have taken a lot of time fettling the suspension to suit me

and unlike some, i prefer 6 potters over the radial brakes (its a matter of feel)
having said all that...GET ONE
you will luv the 12
cheers

GOTTA LUV the 12R!!
