Toyota MR2 SW20-Right place, right time

I was visiting a car dealer in country Vic today for work, when an interesting little car came in as a trade-in. The dealer wasn't going to re-sell it from there yard due to it's age. They needed a certain figure for it to do the deal with the client, so I put my hand up for it! It's a one owner with full history and is in pretty neat condition for a 1990 model. It was just so cheap, I couldn't say no to it. It has Brand New 17" wheels and tryes on it (and I mean brand new...the stickers were still on the tyres and the Quality Cont sticker was still on the rims not yet brake dusted, they had driven it from the tyre place to the dealership) and is stock standard apart from that. It needs a couple of things done to make it perfect, but not enough to annoy me till I can get it done. The original wheels and the original stereo came with it too.(it has a Sansui Aftermarket unit fitted at the moment)

I picked it up and paid for it there and then, to avoid me ringing the dealer tomorrow and saying ..Nah...I've changed my mind!!! I had intended selling the Jeep and buying something else anyway, so this just was right time, right place! Anyone want to buy a 2002 KJ Cherokee CRD Sport, 220,000klms (Just rebuilt the motor Novemeber last year-500klms ago) ?????

Nice Marty!

A few months before I got interested in bikes I was thinking of getting an MX5 or MR2 and drove a few, seem like good fun, really well made little cars! :kuda:

Nice pick up - not many mid-engined vehicals out there. Dare I say it - "Track Day"??? :D :D (just 1 to see how it handles - then maybe another after some fine tuning - then maybe..................)

:kuda:

Nah Wattie, normally aspirated, Australian complied and delivered New! There were literally only a handfull of factory imported new turbos brought into Aus. I only bought it as it was just too cheap not too. I couldn't have bought an equivelent model Camry for what I paid for it! I was a little gobsmacked at how low it's value was. But I'm sure with a little exterior cosmetic touch ups and fixing the air con it will appeal to some young person! I'm hoping to make some money on it to be honest. :)
But, they do go alright for a 2 litre. I had both a normally aspirated and a turbo version as a demo when I ran a Toyota dealership in the early 90's. They handle pFG for a road car. I remember hounding a bloody good rider going up Reefton in the normally aspirated one. The only way the bike could pass was while on a long straight. In the corners the MR2 had the advantage. I gave it a little duge through a few on the way home tonight......it's fun ....for a car!

Mind you a Mate has a 2l turbo that is awesome to drive . Rebuilding the motor for more go right now , expecting around 450 ponies
There is a local MR 2 forum Marty , might be the place to move it on easily , will chase the details from my mate .

Tuck ya dress in ya big girls blouse. Anyone buying a Toyota from that era would bring home a Supra (I like the 3L twin Turbo version).

Seriously though, if it was cheap enough and you'll make pretty boy happy - I mean, a tidy proffit they why not eh. If you spend enough $$ they can run low 10s in the quarter mile.
