Need more input Stephanie...
What type/age/OS is your daughter's PC? How much RAM does it have?
If it's an old OS then the PC may not handle the new card...though if the PC has an AGP Socket it can't be THAT old.
If there is already on-board video you may need to disable this in the PC's BIOS and remove the drivers for it in Device Manager (if it's XP right-click on My Computer and select 'Manage') and Control Panel Add/Remove Programs.
It may also not have enough RAM...bit hard to tell at this early stage of question and answer

.
Two devices have been assigned the same I/O ports, the same interrupt, or the same Direct Memory Access channel (either by the BIOS, the operating system, or a combination of the two). This error message can also appear if the BIOS did not allocate enough resources to the device (for example, if a universal serial bus (USB) controller is not an interrupt from the BIOS because of a corrupted Multiprocessor System (MPS) table).
You can use Device Manager to determine where the conflict is and disable the conflicting device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

I'd put my money on not enough RAM, means a visit to a swap meet as you won't be able to buy RAM that vintage new. (assuming i'm right).

It had another vid card on it and I thought I'd get a better one to run her games better but its loaded the drivers etc but wont use them be cause of the conflict.
its a pentium3 367MHz with 320 meg of ram running XP , I am waiting for 1gig of ram that I bought for it to posted to me ,I ran ok till I put the new card in and now it only runs in 4 colour mode

I thought that may be the case and if so I'll put the old card back in till the ram I bought comes

The error given has nothing to do with available system RAM. it has a conflicting DMA or IRQ channel.
Do what Mick said and uninstall the old software for the old card and disable onboard in BIOS.

Uninstall the whole bloody lot including the devices, set bios to look for agp vid first and start fresh for best results

Ten times better than a "brand" and 1/3 the price too

I reckon Marz has left the old drivers (from his old card) in the PC and NOT loaded the drivers for the new vid card
Video cards MUST have the right drivers
Marz wot happened when you started the PC up?
Did it say...found new hardware and then asked you to insert the software disc for the card??

first off Dundee get nicked !!!!!!!!!

Smitty I loaded the new drivers but it reverted back to 4 colour mode .
the driver in the manager section has a big yellow "!" on the video card so there's some type of conflict. anyway I put the old card back and working ok for the moment. I'll wait till I get the new ram then I'll delete the old drivers and start fresh installing the new card and drivers.
I'll wait till the new year to get all stressed trying to work this thing out !

I'd put my money on the drivers too.
As to IRQ conflicts, that doesn't happen with AGP or PCI-E given that they have their own set of addresses uniquely assigned for that slot and only ever for that slot.
And as to the onboard vs the AGP slot, apparently the motherboards are designed so that only one or the other will ever operate due to the device assignment within the northbridge. I don't know the specifics, but i found out about it when looking into the technicalities on getting dualscreen working.
As to the motherboard itself. give me a hint as to the size of the current motherboard and a postal address and i am pretty sure that i can have a new(er than the old pos that she has) motherboard sent to you & your young one lickity split. It's amazing how much crap and old gear accumulates in the spares box without even trying.
FFS i can even get just a faster processor to you as i am sure i have a box with some p3 chips floating around here that are at least 700mhz capable.

Mate if he's having trouble with a video card then giving him a motherboard is asking for it
I have a whole 700MHz P3 somewhere, alas only 256Mb of RAM...actually, I may have ditched it.

Depends on the mobo Mike, some mobos share the channels and they can even be turned on at the same time to support dual video mode.
Anyways, I have some spare socket 478 p4 2.8 cpus laying around doing jack, but dont have a motherboard to fit.
so if those mobos dont have a cpu im happy to send out one of mine

Well the offer is there none the less. As to the dual channel, i guess it's really up to the manufacturer then i guess on how it works r.e. onboard/agp/pci-e.
As to the cpu, I also have a p4 celeron 2ghz, an athlon 1800 i think (was given it, but not really used it) as well as a duron 1200 plus the p3/733 i just pulled out of my firewall pc to put a slower speed cpu in there (frankly i need to try and underclock the bus to 66mhz just to make it run even cooler as currently the highest load it has seen is 1% utilisation under a fair load as well). Easiest option is the cpu i guess. Wont be massively faster, but it'll make the pc stride faster in its step certainly.
