Anyone here ever managed to copy programs recorded onto their Foxtel iQ boxes ??? How did you do it ? There must be a way, its just data isn't it ?? There are a heap of 'ouputs' on the rear of the iQ - S-video out, A/V out, even a SCART plug that can plug into a VCR ! Apparently the USB port on iQ's is not useable....

I would prefer not to cable the iQ to my PC and run software etc etc anyway, that is a mighty pain in the arse.

What I would like to do, is simply hook up a DVD recorder to one of the many outputs on the back of the iQ, and feed the signal directly into a dvd recorder.........has anyone here had any success doing this ?? If this is not possible, what is ?

With the PS3 - I have been looking at buying a PVR for some time, but the prices are a bit exxy for the limited amount of stuff I will be recording. The Samsung TV I have already has 2 HD tuners built in, so the PVR's like Topview or Beyonwiz are just overkill.......but what about PLayTV ??? Anyone here had a go at using it ??

The reviews seem to indicate that it is a pretty good way to turn your PS3 into a PVR, and about the only thing I need to do, apart from buying the PLayTV add-on, is upgrade the HDD from 60gig to 250 or 320. I can get one of these for <$200, so the total upgrade price will be heaps less than a standalone PVR.....and installing a replacement HDD looks to be pretty straightforward.......I don't have a spare external HDD to copy the current PS3 data on to, and really don't want to buy another HDD just for the transfer operation.....

anyway, hoping some members have had a lash at copying Fox (not Movie Channel stuff, apparently its encrypted) - just some of the FTA stuff I have recorded - and maybe someone here has tried PlayTV already....

cheers

once the shows are on your ps3 you cant burn them to dvd to keep them.

i'd rather buy a dvd burner HDD recorder.

I won't be recording much onto the PS3 - its just a cheaper way to get a PVR with a 320 or even 500gig HDD.

What I mainly want do is copy stuff that has been recorded onto the iQ box......this is where all the kids movies and my FTA ABC stuff is, and its only got a 160gig HD, so it fills up pretty quickly....

You can copy stuff off the PS3, using the PlayTV - but it is limited to only 4gig at a time (about 1 hour of SD).....onto a USB stick. I could then burn that onto a DVD on the PC, but its a lot of rooting around compared to a HDD / DVD recorder. Its also about $600 cheaper though !

Gos,
The "Video out" scart on IQ is next to useless -- it's been adapted to stop you recording box office etc.
I have a Probox PBR-500 got it from

Code: Select all

www.MSY.com.au
about 300 bucks, chucked in a 500gb hard drive and plugged in a usb wireless dongle and can transfer files backwards and forwards to my PC via wireless - even has a built in torrent engine and ftp
So far I am impressed - no jitters when streaming from the pc to the probox or other media player in the bedroom.

I basically used the scart / component (red, yellow & white) lead from the IQ to the A/V in on the probox and then HDMI from the probox to the telly
