ABOUT 50 motorbikes and other stock worth more than $500,000 were damaged in a fire that ripped through a Broadmeadow dealership early this morning.
Police and firefighters are on scene at Kawasaki Newcastle and will attempt to discover the cause of the fire later today.
They are unable to enter the premises at the moment because of safety concerns.
Firefighters said they were called to the scene about 1.45am this morning and found the Lang Road dealership well alight.
The building was badly damaged by the fire, which destroyed an upstairs office and ripped through a mechanical workshop.
It's understood the blaze began in the workshop and spread to other parts of the dealership.
Most of the 50 motorbikes at the dealership were damaged and will likely be written off, staff said.
Reports of flames coming from the Kawasaki Newcastle dealership were made about 1.45am and it took at least 10 crews to extinguish the flames.
There are estimates at least 30 per cent of the Lang Street building has been destroyed and structrual engineers have been called in to assess damage to the rest of the building.
One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat stress.
Newcastle City detectives will investigate the blaze.
