My mates GSXR just went DEAD!

I'm posting this to try to get some ideas for my friend Justin about what may have gone wrong with his bike.
(1996 Carby GSXR750)
Here's what he SMSd me:
"Well I'd been riding to work, got pulled over and stopped the motor.
Went to start it again. With ignition on, I hit the starter which whirred as normal but didn't catch.
I hit starter again and the entire electrical system went blank.
Instruments, lights, everything dead.
No popping sound, no burning electrical smell.
Fuses all ok, tried wiggling starter and ignition key and cables in case of bad contact but no sign of life.
It has an ignition computer but even if that died I's still be expecting headlights at least.
Of course if you post this on the Kwaka site they'll say the problem is it's a suzuki hahha"
So, there ya have it.
His car's out from being stolen and burnt, and I think he's pretty strapped for cash at the moment so he'd like to try a few things before he has to somehow get it to an auto electrician.
Ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Tim.
